The San Francisco 49ers are getting slaughtered in the gridiron under the leadership of Blaine Gabbert. With Colin Kaepernick also looking a lot less like a starter himself, Chip Kelly looks into other options before benching his top quarterback this season. Among the available options, the Carlos Hyde squad appears to be seriously considering signing Geno Smith soon.

The New York Jets are struggling this season as well. However, Ryan Fitzpatrick seems to be faring better than the San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks. This means that the New York Jets might not be looking into making a switch anytime soon to give Geno Smith a shot at the lead role. Will the San Francisco 49ers take advantage of his frustration at being a backup to lure him into their roster?

Rumors are rife that Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert are posing incredible problems for the San Francisco 49ers. Despite having notable quarterbacks in the roster, Chip Kelly cannot seem to make his plays work. Aside from the underwhelming leadership of Blaine Gabbert, the issues concerning Colin Kaepernick off the gridiron are also bothering the football squad.

Hence, it comes as no surprise that big money could be offered to get Geno Smith. The New York Jets second stringer has been a starter in the past and has experience as a leader of a team. Moreover, Geno Smith is in major redeem mode to prove himself worthy of a second chance in the league. Will he get this opportunity donning the San Francisco 49ers uniform?

"There is soft interest around the league in Smith. The Jets have fielded inquiries from teams monitoring their surplus at several positions, including quarterback," revealed Manish Mehta earlier. He added, "It's not as if Mike Maccagnan's phone is blowing up with teams clamoring for Smith, but there is intrigue across the league about how the Jets will handle the logjam at the most pivotal position in the sport. The Jets haven't actively shopped Smith, but it would be silly not to consider all their options."

With the increasingly disappointing performance of Blaine Gabbert this NFL season, speculations all point to a Geno Smith trade to solve the matter. While the San Francisco 49ers are bound to pay a huge sum to acquire the New York Jets quarterback, some fans believe that this could be a good investment. After all, the Chip Kelly team seems to be in desperate need of a leader.

At this point though, this remains a rumor. None of the parties involved have officially commented on the matter. However, fans remain hopeful that Geno Smith will see a lot more action this season.
