NFL Rumors: Seattle Seahawks Russell Wilson Begs for Backup; Kam Chancellor Rejects Paxton Lynch, Carson Wentz

The Seattle Seahawks are favorites for the Super Bowl almost every season. The team-up of Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor and Marshawn Lynch in leading the NFL team has become legendary across the league. However, it looks like the next season will be more challenging than usual to the Seattle Seahawks. One main problem is the exit of The Beast Mode. Another urgent concern - one that may or may not be addressed in the ongoing NFL draft - is the lack of backup quarterback for Russell Wilson.

Earlier this week, the Seattle Seahawks decided to release Phillip Sims, who is one of the only two quarterbacks on the roster. This leaves Wilson alone in his position. Fans assume that Tarvaris Jackson will be available to sub for Wilson, but it looks like the Seattle Seahawks have yet to offer the former a contract he feels will be suitable for him. At the moment, Jackson is still a free agent and can be signed by other teams in the NFL.

So where will the Seattle Seahawks go from here? Typically, NFL teams have at least two or three quarterbacks on the roster. In fact, the Denver Broncos last season had a bit of an issue with both Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler ready to take over. The same issue was encountered by the New York Jets in the form of Geno Smith and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert also faced the same concern. The problem is which of the two or three quarterbacks should take the starting role. Clearly, this is not the case for the Seattle Seahawks.

Fans initially assumed that the Seattle Seahawks would sign a quarterback in the NFL draft. Two names cropped up earlier - Paxton Lynch and Carson Wentz. However, the Kam Chancellor squad opted to trade with the Denver Broncos. This move gave the Super Bowl 50 champs the advantage of drafting Lynch. Meanwhile, Wentz was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite their unique position, the Seattle Seahawks appear not to be fazed by the issue. In fact, Pete Carroll even reiterated his "relief" over the fact that they have Wilson on the roster. Amid the shortage of quarterbacks in the league, the Seattle Seahawks head coach feels fortunate to have Wilson on the team.

"It is a great relief to have a quarterback who has played for us and knows our system and knows us," said Carrol of Wilson. He added," We know him. And that has been so effective. We are lucky to have Russell. It's a secure feeling, and we like it. And we are fortunate to be in this position."
