Now that Russell Wilson will be out for a couple of weeks due to an injury after the Seattle Seahawks Week 3 game, it seems the team could opt for signing a free agent quarterback in his place. One candidate could be Tarvaris Jackson, the team's former quarterback.

Wilson suffered an MCL strain during the Seahawks' game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. Although Wilson's injury doesn't seem too serious, he is expected to miss at least three weeks. With him out, that means the Seahawks have no other choice but to go with backup quarterback Trevone Boykin as they go up against the New York Jets at Week 4.

Still though, head coach Pete Carroll is still hoping that Wilson will be able to return immediately.

"You've got to have a little bit of good luck," he said. "Just like any kind of injury, it's all about how the guy responds to the work."

"What he has, a lot of guys play with," he added. "This is something our trainers have been through a number of times and they know that it's really possible that he'll be fine. He still has to respond to the work on Wednesday and Thursday and we'll see how he gets through it. We'll be watching it very close to do the right thing by making sure his health and wellbeing moving forward and out team's well-being moving forward and all that [are taken] into account."

However, if things don't work out well for Wilson and Seattle, the team will be entering the upcoming weeks with a very weak quarterback bench, with Boykin the only one on it. The Seahawks could promote someone from the practice squad such as Jake Heaps but this still isn't enough to carry the team during Wilson's absence.

One thing that the team could do is to bring in Jackson either as a temporary replacement for Wilson or as backup to Boykin. That way, the team will still have the necessary depth that could serve as an insurance policy in case another injury hits the Seahawks.
