NFL Rumors: Von Miller and Denver Broncos are Close to Finalizing Deal

New rumors suggest that the Denver Broncos and Von Miller could be getting closer to finalizing a deal for the upcoming season. According to reports, it seems the Broncos are now willing to offer the star linebacker a better deal.

Previously, the Denver franchise was reportedly offering Miller $58 million guaranteed. For the athlete, though, this figure is too low and allegedly demanded $70 million. Since the Broncos and Miller were not able to see eye-to-eye in financial terms, the negotiations for his new contract with the team stalled.

Now, however, the Broncos are willing to give in a bit to Miller's demands. According to Sportsrageous, the team has agreed to give Miller $61 million guaranteed, which will be part of his six year contract that's reportedly worth $114.5 million.

Although $61 million is a huge figure, it's still far from Miller's asking price of $70 million. Still, this shows that the Broncos are willing to budge just to retain the linebacker in their roster.

It is not yet clear if Miller had already agreed to the new offer but now that the Broncos have made a move and re-started the negotiations, it is up to the athlete to make a decision. He can either take a deal or present another figure, which is lower than $70 million but higher than $61 million, and wait for the Broncos' response.

The back-and-forth negotiations between the Broncos and Miller are still part of the latter's issue regarding his franchise tag with the team. In a statement by the athlete, Miller explained that the reason why he's refusing the tag is to help other players in the league. According to him, by doing so, he'll be able to raise awareness about how franchise tags limit the career options of other NFL athletes.

"I'm not going to play for the franchise tag, it just doesn't make [any] sense in any way," he said in a statement according to SB Nation. "You know, I've never really played for money, it's just not what I play for."

"So it's hard to get me to do things for money," he added. "It's bigger than, you know, one year you gotta get this or miss out on that...It's bigger than that. It's a league-wide problem that I feel like I am in a situation to help out with."
