The Arizona Cardinals' latest acquisition for this season comes in the form of tight end Jermaine Gresham. With the 6-foot-5, 260-pound two-time Pro Bowler in the team, the Arizona Cardinals opted to transfer Damond Powell, a receiver, to the reserve/non-football injury list since the latter remains confined in a hospital after getting shot in the face in Toledo, Ohio over the weekend, according to The Arizona Republic. Powell's wounds have been confirmed to be non-life threatening.

The former tight end of the Cincinnati Bengals signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals, bypassing other teams vying for his attention, namely, the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Oakland Raiders, according to The Advocate. Prior to his signing with the Cardinals, Saints' coach Sean Payton had been openly discussing how Gresham would fit in his New Orleans team. Admitting that the veteran tight end is an athlete they have "studied quite a bit now in the last couple of months," Payton was clearly eager then to integrate Gresham in the group.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals appear to still be eyeing other players despite the addition of Gresham to the team. According to NFL Trade Rumors, Chris Cooley is still in the running in terms of possibly playing tight end. A former member of the Washington Redskins, the now radio show host expressed his desire to get back in the field this season. Admitting that he is "not holding out hope," Cooley disclosed during an episode of ESPN980 that he has been in talks with the Cardinals before Gresham came into the picture and signed a year-long contract with them.

"If I had an opportunity to compete in training camp, I could be probably a lot of teams second tight end," Cooley shared via ESPN. He went on to say, "I feel very confident in saying that and I feel very confident in my ability to go through a season." It could be recalled that Cooley had been one of the most promising NFL players two years ago, playing as the tight end for the Redskins. However, he was abruptly pulled out of training camp when he suffered an injury to Fred Davis. Since then, the former Redskins athlete has been seen hosting talk shows and hanging out in DJ booths.

Despite his two-year break, Cooley now feels that he can once again shine in the NFL. He said, "I almost feel uncomfortable saying I know I can play now just because of how it sounds." Cooley added, "It almost sounds arrogant, but it is how I feel. I got two more years, maybe. So why not take a shot at it and we'll see where we go."

At the moment, no official announcement has been made by either Cooley or the Cardinals regarding the athlete's potential inclusion in the team's roster this season.
