Apple and Nokia are in the middle of a legal dispute right now. Nokia has expanded its patent litigation against Apple across 11 countries. Apple is accused of infringing 40 patents. This comes after the American tech company has filed a complaint against two companies that Nokia has allegedly colluded with to extort Apple and raise patent prices.  Open Grid Scheduler / Grid Engine via Flickr

Nokia is not a major force in the smartphone industry these days, but this does not mean that the company lacks a strong following worldwide. Many are still feeling nostalgic about the good old days when their Nokia 3310 (which has since seen a re-release earlier this year at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain) was virtually indestructible. Much has changed on the smartphone scene since, and this time around, it is HMD Global that handles the Nokia handset business. There were whispers going around that more Nokia-branded smartphones are making their way to the market this year, with one of them being most likely a flagship device. That would make plenty of sense, that’s for sure.

After all, you do need flagships in order to compete with the very best of them out there. It showcases your company’s technological prowess, not to mention it is a point for bragging rights among users, too. The Nokia 9 could very well be the next flagship device from HMD Global, and it seems that the full hardware specifications for the Nokia 9 has just leaked out.

Nokia 9 leaked specifications
NokiaPowerUser managed to grab hold of the leak, where it does seem to point to some pretty unique and chart topping hardware that would be able to hold its own against some of the other flagship smartphones that are currently in the market. For instance, there will be a 5.5-inch QHD OLED display which should offer crisp and crystal clear images, a Snapdragon 835 chipset that is by no means a slowpoke, 6GB of RAM that ought to be more than adequate to handle whatever tasks that you throw in its direction, a 22MP dual-lens Carl Zeiss rear camera which ought to bring out the best in portrait shots, as well as a 12MP front-facing shooter for selfie lovers.

Want to know more? How about throwing in a massive 3,800mAh battery that has support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 which should see it tide you through even the most gruelling of work days? In order to make sure it can hold a candle to the recently announced Samsung Galaxy S8, the Nokia 9 is also touted to arrive with an iris scanner and throws in a fingerprint scanner for an added security measure. There will also be an Adreno 540 GPU that handles all of the graphical workload, with a choice of either 64GB or 128GB of internal memory. All of these will run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

While it has not been specified, the Nokia 9 will supposedly arrive with IP68-certification to help it maintain its position in the flagship market -- allowing you to bring it with you to the seaside or by the pool as it can handle being submerged by up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes at a time, and is also dust-proof.

Nokia 9 release date and price
When will it be released? That remains virtually unknown, but from what we have seen of its specifications, the Nokia 9 is certainly able to rub shoulders with the very best of them -- if true. It will supposedly arrive with OZO audio enhancements as well, which will offer a surround sound effect when you listen to your music and audio recordings, making it more of an audio flagship like the LG V20.

Do expect it to be priced accordingly with the rest of the other flagships in the market, although we believe that HMD Global might just make it a wee bit more affordable to kickstart a possible price war.
