Oakland Athletics vs San Francisco Giants
The Oakland Athletics take on the San Francisco Giants on Friday. Oakland Athletics

World Series defending champion San Francisco Giants host the Oakland Athletics on Friday as both teams renew their Interleague cross-bay rivalry at the AT&T Park in the opener of a three-game series. Live stream of the game can be watched online below.

While the Giants is obviously one the hottest teams in baseball in the current series since the All-Star break, winning five games against one loss in two road series, they have much of what the Athletics want. Three World Series championships in five years.

In Friday's Oakland Athletics vs San Francisco Giants, the A's enjoy a slight advantage having defeated their host in three in four games during each of the past two years. The Athletics won three games against the Giants with an aggregate score of 17-2 in the last season.

The case of Jesse Chavez is typical. Last year, the Oakland right-hander entered a July 7 start against the Giants having allowed nine runs in 10 innings spanning his previous two outings. Chavez promptly reversed his fortunes, limiting the Giants to four hits while striking out nine in six shutout innings. The A's won, 5-0.

Going into Friday's opener, the As have a 5-2 Interleague mark so far this season compared to the Giants which enjoy a 6-3 record. Interestingly, Oakland hold an all-time record at AT&T Park at 18-25.

The matchup between the Athletics and the Giants is more interesting as both teams are fairly evenly match in pitching with Oakland deciding on Jesse Chavez (5-9, 3.21 ERA) to the mound off his first win in four starts, according to Bleacher Report. Chavez will be pitted against Giants veteran Jake Peavy (1-4, 4.94), who has emerged as one of the favorites as reported by Odds Shark.

Peavy got a lucky break during the Giants victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks last Saturday with his first victory of the year, despite allowing the opponent to score four runs in eight hits, including two home runs in 6.1 innings. The Giants pitcher was the tough luck loser in each of his previous two outings with the team, following a combined three earned runs that allowed the Giants to score two total on his behalf.

But Oakland is showing strong performance latterly, winning five of their last eight games. The Athletics own the second worst record in the AL and are behind 11 games with the Angles in their division but the team is doing well on the road with a 23-24 win-loss column, according to Pregame.com.

The report said, "The A's rank 9th in scoring (4.33 rpg), 10th in hitting (.256) and 17th in homers (80), while on the mound they are 6th in ERA (3.39) and 5th in WHIP (1.20). San Francisco ranks 10th in scoring (4.27 rpg), 3rd in hitting (.272) and 24th in homers (73), while on the mound they are 13th in ERA (3.79) and 16th in WHIP (1.26)."
