Derek Carr's brother, former NFL quarterback David Carr, has provided an injury update on the Oakland Raiders lead passer. According to David, Derek suffered two dislocations on his pinkie during the Raiders' match against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Then injury occurred during a mistimed snap between Derek and center Rodney Hudson. The injury forced him to miss out on a couple of plays during the third quarter but was then able to return while wearing a black glove on his right hand. As noted by ESPN, despite the injured pinkie, Derek's deep pass improved during the fourth quarter which then cemented the Raiders' 35-32 win over the Panthers.
But, during the match, Derek admitted that the injury produced the worst pain he had ever felt. His finger was immediately popped into place, but after Derek complained from the pain, Oakland staff members presumed that there was a second dislocation on the same finger.
This was also confirmed by his brother David, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Although Derek was still able to return and finish the Week 12 match against the Panthers, there's a chance that he might miss a couple of weeks due to the injury. This will depend on his post-game checkup with doctors. He could end up like Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears, who was forced to the sidelines for a couple of weeks due to a thumb injury in his throwing hand.
If Derek will miss a few games because of the injury, then the Raiders will most likely go with backup quarterback Matt McGloin. Luckily for the Raiders, they are currently on their bye week, which means Derek will have enough time to recuperate and check if he will be able to play with his throwing hand.
Despite the injury, Derek's teammates are confident that their starting quarterback will not miss games this year. As seen during the game on Sunday, he was still able to play beautifully despite dealing with a lot of pain.
"He's a fighter, he's a beast," left tackle Donald Penn said. "He came in that second half and didn't miss a beat. I don't know what you guys are watching, but that dude is a beast."
