Oppo recently released the R9 smartphone. Oppo

Chinese mobile phone maker Oppo recently launched its R9 model. There is no sign yet of the R9 Plus model which was announced at the same time. Observers expect that the R9 Plus would be available by December of this year.

R9 Specs and Review

Previous offers from Oppo did not directly copy the look and the exterior of iPhones, but the same thing cannot be said for the R9, which obviously is a copy of the iPhone 6S, even down to some features of the user interface.

One of the first things that you would notice about the unit is that it has a super-thin bezel.  It has a 5.5-inch full-HD display which translates to 1080x1920 pixels. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which gives its screen adequate protection. The model is powered by a 2.0GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. It utilizes the VOOC fast charging tech for its small 3010mAh battery.

The R9 is just 153x74.3x6.58mm and weighs in at 145 grams. It comes with a fingerprint sensor that is in the home button. The unit also comes with an antenna line that is just 0.3mm wide. That is a big development from other metal smartphones which normally have 1.5mm antenna lines or even wider. The R9 has 64GB of storage which can be expanded with a microSD storage slot.

The first thing that you would notice about the R9 is how much it looks like the iPhone 6S and that's not surprising. That is what Oppo is trying to achieve with this model. If it looks a lot like the iPhone 6S, its performance is a different thing altogether.

The R9 leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to some features. It does not perform well when used for gaming. The graphics on some games can deteriorate when using this unit. But when using some of the more common apps like Facebook and Gmail, it ran smoothly.

The battery of the R9 isn't too bad. A charge can last 11 hours on airplane mode while watching videos constantly. A unit can sell for around $ 425. Overall, many users feel that a unit is overpriced for the kind of features that it can give to the users. The fact that is that has a copycat design but it fails to capture the essence and the strong points and the features that are offered by iPhone to users.
