The women of Litchfield prison will be returning for another season of Orange is the New Black, and Season 3 is scheduled to begin sometime in the summer of 2015 on Netflix. So what can be expected?
We have already covered in a previous article that one of the big plotlines in Season 3 will be Daya's baby. As viewers of Season 2 are aware, Daya (Dascha Polanco) is pregnant with Bennett's (Matt McGorry) baby, but Daya managed to blame the baby on a made-up rape from the corrupt guard Pornstache (Pablo Schreiber). Pornstache was fired, and won't be back in Season 3, but GameNGuide confirms the rumor that Mary Steenburgen will enter the show as Pornstache's mother, and will try to gain custody rights of the child. There have been reports of a new character being added placing Pornstache named "Berdie" Rogers, played by actress Marsha Stephanie Blake.
The nine months of Daya's pregnancy could be covered in the show's usual 13-episode season timespan, but there has been a rumor that there could be a "time-jump", and it has already been revealed that the next season will have 14 episodes. The time-jump means that all of the other characters' stories could be propelled further than they would have been in previous seasons, creating a lot more intrigue amongst a show with quite a large cast.
Another plotline that we talked about was the relationship between Alex and Piper, and iDigitalTimes reports that these two characters will be in every episode of Season 3. Alex was notably absent in Season 2, and it is not clear how Piper (Taylor Schilling) will respond when Alex (Laura Prepon) returns. There have been reports that Piper's former fiancé, Larry (Jason Biggs) will not be returning to the new season. There was a hint of Piper and Larry getting back together when she has her furlough, but it looks like the relational focus will be on Piper and Alex, or lack thereof.
Another spoiler is that the character Big Boo (Lea Delaria) will be getting a flashback. Orange is the New Black often has episodes that focus on flashbacks of certain characters, and this character will finally get her spotlight. That is good news for her fanbase, but the bad news is that there is a rumor that this character could be killed off.
Those who viewed Orange is the New Black will remember at the end of season 2 when Vee (Lorraine Toussaint) is run over by a van driven by a fleeing inmate. There are rumors that Vee could be making a return to the show, but this might be in a flashback, as she has a part on ABC's Forever.
Vee's accident will apparently cause changes in Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson, who was used as a pawn of Vee in Season 2. It is possible that she will stand on her own two feet and not need Vee's validation as she did in the past.
Season 3 will have a theme of "faith", which Jenji Kohan, the show's creator, revealed to The Air Herald last September, and that the show was half-way through filming. The earliest that Orange is the New Black Season 3 will come out on Netflix is June of 2015.
