A Pakistani man who converted from Islam to Christianity was thrown off the top of a building and injured when he attempted to share the Gospel with his family. However, his bold witness eventually compelled his family to convert to the religion they once hated and become baptized.
Mission Network News shares the story of Habib, who, along with his wife, converted from Islam to Christianity and were baptized - a crime punishable by death under Pakistani law - after reading about Jesus Christ.
"They were so inquisitive and just ate up the Gospel as they were reading about Jesus Christ. They placed their faith in Him, leaving their Islamic background and the traditions of their families," Bruce Allen of Forgotten Missionaries International told the outlet.
Excited over their newfound faith, Habib and his wife shared their testimony with their Muslim family. However, the Good News of Jesus Christ was not well-received.
"Habib did indeed have an opportunity to share his faith with his family-and they promptly tried to kill him, throwing him off the top of the building," Allen shared. "Providentially he had landed in a pile of sand that was being used for construction, mixing cement."
Habib suffered a broken arm and bruised ribs, but his legs were fine, allowing him to flee along with his wife and children.
Several months later, Allen was back in the country, meeting with new believers and even was able to see some new believers get baptized. Miraculously, those baptized included several members of Habib's family. The same people who had persecuted Habib months early, attempting to toss him to his death, had embraced the religion they once despised thanks to the powerful witness of Habib and his wife.
"His mother, father, several of his sibling, in-law, things like that. It was such an encouraging, well say, turn of events," Allen said. "It was just a tremendous blessing to be a part of that celebration with that family, that, how God works, even in the midst of difficult circumstances, can continue to draw people to himself."
While he is still recovering from his injuries, Habib works to help evangelize the Muslim community in Pakistan, according to MWN.
"Pray for Habib, his wife and kids, and their families," said the organization. "Pray for their wisdom and growth in Christ, God's provision, and their protection. Also, pray for their time of transition as the young family settles into a new community and as Habib continues to heal...Please, pray for his ministry and for Gospel's work in these Muslims' hearts."
Pakistan is ranked at #4 on the Open Door USA's World Watch List (WWL) of the top 50 countries where Christians face the most severe persecution for their faith - up two spots from last year.
"Christian converts from Islam suffer the brunt of persecution from both radical Islamic groups and families and neighbors," reads the report. "Protestant Christian communities are under close scrutiny and suffer frequent attacks, especially when they are active in outreach amongst Muslims. Violent persecution is common. Christians are targets for murder, bombings, abduction of women, rape, forced marriages and eviction from home and country."
