The Copa America 2015 tournament is now in the stages of winding down, with teams from Peru and Paraguay battling on the soccer field for third place on Friday. The highly anticipated match can be watched online via live stream below.
According to David Kuzio of Football News, Peru and Paraguay will face off at the Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo in Chile, the host nation, for third place in the tournament. Chile beat Peru 2-1, while Argentina hammered Paraguay 6-1 during the semifinal rounds.
"We were always looking for the result, but this is the beginning of a process and there is still work to do," Paraguay manager Ramon Diaz said. "The team showed great dedication, hard work, so I am proud of this squad. The result may be big, but people in Paraguay have to feel proud of this team."
Diaz added that despite his team's disappointment, he thought Paraguay should be proud of how it performed in the football tournament.
"This will help us to grow," Diaz said. "We have to analyze the tournament, but we are pleased with the group. This Copa América is a wonderful experience for everyone."
The Paraguay manager acknowledged that Argentina "showed class and potential" after beating his team. Now his focus is turning to the game against Peru.
"We will do our best to get third place," Diaz said. "I want to thank everyone. We will fight for third place."
According to Pascal Lemesre of Sports Mole, both Peru and Paraguay are outside the top 60 in the FIFA rankings. He looked at Paraguay's strong record in the South American competition.
"They have only failed to reach the quarter-finals once in the last eight tournaments, but this year was just the second time in that streak that they progressed past the last eight - their 2011 3-0 final defeat to Uruguay in Buenos Aires being the last," Lemesre wrote of Paraguay.
As for Peru, Lemesre reported that Peru has only been beaten twice in the Copa America tournament, first to Brazil in their opening Group C game and later to Chile in the semifinals. Peru is headed by manager Ricardo Gareca.
"Peru fought valiantly after being reduced to 10 men in the 20th minute, when Carlos Zambrano received his second booking and only went down to a long-range wonderstrike from Vargas," Lemesre wrote.
Lemesre added that Peru has "consistently performed well in recent years," noting that the team reached the quarterfinals or better in the last six tournaments.
Based on his analysis, Lemesre believed that Peru would win third place in this tournament.
"Both sides will want to go out on a high after falling just short of a surprise appearance in the final," Lemesre wrote. "We're just siding with Peru because of their dogged recent Copa record and fact that they were much more competitive in the semis."
