Every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers look forward to seeing what games are available for free for the month. The November 2015 games have already been announced, but everyone is wondering what could be available for the month of December 2015. Considering the pattern of last year, it is possible that a AAA game on the way for the PlayStation 4.
For those that aren't aware, a AAA game is one with the highest budgets and levels of promotion or the highest ratings by a consensus of professional reviewers. Of the choice for this November 2015, most would say that these games are not the AAA variety.
There is an exception to that case, with what was available for the PS3 with Mass Effect 2. If you haven't heard of this game series, this would be a good time to jump on board his highly-acclaimed franchise. It is an action role-playing video game by Bioware and EA, and it is set in a 22nd century universe full of aliens. What is interesting is that with a saved game from the predecessor, the player can change the storyline in a very intriguing way.
Another option that PS3 players have is Beyond Good and Evil, a game that was released over a decade ago, and probably was a AAA game back in that time. The Steam Store describes it as follows: "For centuries, the planet Hyllis has been bombarded by a relentless alien race. Skeptical of her government's inability to repel the invaders, a rebellious action reporter named Jade sets out to capture the truth."
For the PlayStation 4, users will receive The Walking Dead: Season 2, according to the PlayStation Blog. This is the game version of its own series from Telltale games. If you aren't familiar with Telltale, they put out a lot of interactive story games based in popular franchises, and this one is based on the popular The Walking Dead comic book series. The video game series ties into the graphic novel saga, and what makes this interesting is that the choices that a player makes carry over into different episodes. It is odd that Season 2 is being offered instead of Season 1, but that season was free for Xbox Games with Gold subscribers last month.
Also available for the PS4 is Magicka 2, which the game's official website describes as: "The world's most irreverent co-op action adventure returns! In the next chapter of Magicka, players ascend from the ruins of Aldrheim to experience a Midgård almost wiped free of Wizards after the Wizard Wars, with the few that do remain having either gone mad or extremely hostile toward all others." It is quite a fantasy game with an interesting sense of humor.
For PS4, PS Vita, and PS3 Cross-Buy (when available) is Dragon Fin Soup. This particular game is describe on its website as "seamlessly blends genres to create a fresh experience: half story-driven tactical RPG and half high-stakes roguelike, with a pinch of crass humor and a heaping helping of murder & madness set in a procedurally generated fantasy world".
PS Vita users will have access to Invizimals. For those that are not aware of this game, it uses some augmented reality action so users have to track down creatures in the real world. It sounds very similar to Pokémon Go.
Okay, so even though PlayStation Plus subscribers might be disappointed by the November 2015 lineup for free games, there is hope. Last year, PlayStation blog reported the two free games for December 2014 were Secret Ponchos and Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition. Most would be quick to classify Injustice: Gods Among Us as a definite AAA game, specifically with its association with the DC Universe, and all the hard work that went into it. Sacred Ponchos is not necessarily a AAA game, but a definitely good top-down shooter.
I bring this up because I believe that PS4 subscribers will probably be receiving a special gift for the holiday in December 2015 with a AAA title. If so, then this should make PlayStation Plus subscribers happy, as they are usually given indie titles.
