It goes without saying that Niantic Labs’ Pokémon Go has been one of the top mobile game hits this year, where it has resulted in a stampede in various locations throughout the world in the past simply because players were in a rush to actually capture that elusive Pokémon to complete their collection. Well, many fans of the games are certainly primed to see whether there will be new changes to the game with an upcoming update, and changes there are. While many might be disappointed with the addition of new creatures to Pokémon Go, something is better than nothing, right? Touted by many to be the ‘baby’ update, the latest update will reveal just a few more new Pokémon.

There will not be another hundred more Pokémon for you to scurry around and capture this time around, as the latest update will deliver but a small number of new Pokémon. For all the eggs that you pick up from Pokéstops, you will be able to hatch new Pokémon that are cute as all get out. For starters, there is the curly haired Cleffa as well as Igglybuff. Originally debuting in Pokémon Gold and Silver on the now archaic Game Boy way back in 1998, they will finally see the light of day in a modern representation on a smartphone. It must be said that Pokémon Gold and Silver are the second generation of Pokémon games to be released, which means this update does make sense since it will introduce new Pokémons. However, in Pokémon Gold and Silver, there were another 100 new Pokémons released which were not found in Pokémon Red or Blue.

Hence, you can see why there has been so much anticipation building up among the Pokémon Go fanbase before the latest update hit the market. However, instead of getting all 100 new Pokémons, Niantic Labs had other ideas. Only four, or perhaps up to eight new Pokémon will be the “returns” that one can expect from this latest update. Beggars cannot be choosers, I guess.

Now, the update has been released for less than a day, and avid players have managed to pick up the following baby Pokémon: Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, and Pichu. These four happened to be part of the eight Pokémon which could be hatched from eggs in the Pokémon Gold and Silver games. It looks like that’s about it for now, which is rather anti-climatic when you think about it. You might want to drown your sorrows in some Pokémon-related Frappuccino from Starbucks with such news though.

To say the least, fans are not impressed. At all. In fact, many of them are disappointed, since they have been looking forward to a century of new Pokémon in order to tide them through this coming holiday season. It cannot be helped that fans have started to harbor thoughts of Niantic Labs rolling out so few new Pokémon simply to increase its revenue stream as players will have to fork out money for special items in order to incubate more than a single egg simultaneously.

Will Niantic Labs release the remainder roster of Gen 2 Pokémon in due time? We will have to wait and see.
