If you aren't familiar with Rick and Morty, then you probably haven't heard of Adult Swim.  Adult Swim is when the Cartoon Network shifts its cartoons to a more late-night adult audience, and the end result is animated that is edgy and often bawdy as well.  In the case of Rick and Morty, the show has proven to be quite a hit for its first two seasons, but the question of a third season could be answered sooner than the fans were expecting.

According to Ecumenical News, one of the writers of the show, Mike McMahan, has stated that the voice recording for the show has already begun.  Dan Harmon, the show's co-creator, stated at Magic City Comic-Con that Rick and Morty could come out later in 2016. 

Rick and Morty was created by Harmon and Justin Roiland, who voices the two title characters.  Rick is a careless mad scientist who is always running some kind of out-of-control science experiment, and Morty is his 14-year-old grandson sidekick who goes along for adventures on other planets and dimensions.  The characters were originally modeled after Doc Brown and Marty McFly from Back to the Future, but Rick is not as kind as Doc Brown and Morty is more whiny than Marty McFly.

The show uses a lot of science fiction tropes as its plotlines (yet never time travel), and has a lot of fast-paced humor and very quick dialogue.  There is definitely no shortage of imagination in the animation, and the show has embraced elements of darker humor.  Certain episodes take place in alternate timelines, and often the characters are wondering if anything in the universe is truly unique if there are infinite dimensions of varying timelines.  The show also has a very well-developed universe full of all kinds of alien races, and two episodes have dealt with nothing more than the main characters sitting around the television watching TV from other worlds. 

Rick and Morty ended its Season 2 with a cliffhanger.   Rick was wanted by the people who are in charge of the universe, and Rick just doesn't get along with them.  Whether or not Rick has committed a crime against the Powers That Be was not revealed, but it would not surprise audiences if he did.  Rick seems to be a very big jerk, but he is shown doing a kind act by protecting his daughter's family, even though he is a fugitive by the end of Season 2. 

So will this issue be resolved in Season 3?  Probably on Episode 1, so the duo and their family can go back to their far-out hijinks.   There are often things from other episodes that carry-over into future episodes, but for the most part, episodes of Rick and Morty stand on their own.  There is a supposed running plotline to the show, but whatever it is could be revealed later in the series, as the writers seem to want to avoid a soap opera serialized storyline.   

Look for Rick and Morty Season 3 later this year, and leave a comment if you want to see something happen on it.  Chances are, everything is possible on this show.
