If you are not familiar with Tomb Raider, it is a video game franchise that has been around for almost twenty years, with the first game released back in 1996. The shooter game with a buxom main female character has been one of the most successful video game franchises ever, and it even spawned a 2001 movie and even a sequel that really helped launch Angelina Jolie's film career. The Tomb Raider reboot started with a young Lara Croft on an island where it was a kill or be killed situation, and Lara is apparently traumatized by having to do the former. Now, in the sequel, the Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara is back in action, and we know more about the release date and an update thanks to a brand new trailer.
From what can be seen of the trailer on iDigitalTimes, the newest trailer for the game is called "Aim Greater". It begins by showing great explorers, and then cutting to Lara Croft climbing an ice wall. Unfortunately, the ice unexpectedly caves in on her and she has to act very quickly if she wants to survive a fall. If you know anything about the last version of Tomb Raider, this kind of action is pretty common.
Of course, Lara lives to see another day, and she makes it to the top. At the top is some entrance to some unknown tomb of great adventure that is no doubt some level in the game, and she's ready for action...in short form. That is, she is wearing shorts. Yes, the sub-arctic snow climb was apparently not a good reason for Lara Croft to abandon her traditional wardrobe choice.
This is actually the second trailer to the game, as the first showed Lara in therapy, trying to recover from her past experiences, according to Screen Rant. It sounds as if the Rise of the Tomb Raider game will be a direct sequel to the Tomb Raider reboot which sold 8.5 million copies.
There is a apparently some Microsoft exclusivity deal so that the Rise of the Tomb Raider game will be released for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 first. In all honesty, I am surprised that this game will be even available for the Xbox 360, but apparently Nixxes Software is in charge of porting it over. As for when it will be released to the PC and the PS4 (let's just assume that a PS3 version isn't being made), it will be after the prime selling season. Fortunately, there will be a Sony-exclusive game to be released at about the same time with Uncharted: A Thief's End, which has a similar adventure setting, gameplay, and release date.
The release date for Rise of the Tomb Raider will be sometime in "Holiday 2015", and yes, that isn't very specific as that is a window of maybe early November or late December. Hopefully there will be more details revealed about Rise of the Tomb Raider at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (otherwise known as E3), a big video game convention held annually at the L.A. convention center.
