Samsung has been dancing along to the tune of having not one, but two flagship smartphones for the past few years. One of it would be the Samsung Galaxy S series, while the other would be the Samsung Galaxy Note range. It goes without saying that the latest model in the latter would be known as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which will keep company the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge company on store shelves. An invitation that was issued this week saw Samsung all ready to reveal the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phablet this coming August 2nd in an event that will be known as "7 Unpacked."

The lucky city to be selected for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 unveiling? Where else but the Big Apple at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Of course, in this modern day and age, you can be sure that there will be live streaming of the event for those with mobile devices or computers, while satellite events will also happen simultaneously elsewhere such as in London and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

One might be scratching one's head, wondering whether there is a typo in the product name. After all, isn't the most recent model of this phablet known as the Galaxy Note 5? Whatever happened to the Galaxy Note 6 then? Fret not, Samsung will use the opportunity to explain to the legion of fans and press who will be in attendance and riveted on their screens as to why the device will be called the Galaxy Note 7 instead.

According to Samsung, "First and foremost though, you might be curious as to why it's called Galaxy Note7 instead of Galaxy Note6. There are a couple reasons why. First, the Galaxy Note7 will complement our Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and unify our product portfolio. Second, the Galaxy Note7 will minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung, and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone."

Needless to say, any new generation of hardware will surely arrive with its fair share of technological improvements, be it from the hardware or software perspective. Having said that, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is rumored to arrive with a slew of upgrades over its predecessor. One of the major gripes concerning the Galaxy Note 5 would be the missing microSD memory card slot, but that looks set to be rectified with the upcoming Galaxy Note 7 in order to have it be on par with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge as announced at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.

With Samsung rolling out a new mobile storage format that is based on UFS 1.0, this might also mean that the Galaxy Note 7 could boast of a hybrid UFS/microSD card slot.

Our eyes might also be treated to a dual-curved display which would not be different from the current Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, making it the first generation Note that boasts of such a feature. As for its resolution, there are no external factors to see Samsung moving away from the 2K display.

It would be nice if Samsung took notice of the criticism surrounding the accuracy of its heart rate monitor that is located on the back of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7, too. Assuming that is the case, then the Galaxy Note 7 should work better than its smartphone counterparts, not to mention throwing in an ris scanner that will play its role as a new and more secure biometric security measure.

Recent leaks also point to a USB Type-C port that will be conveniently located on the bottom, which would not be too far off the mark with word on the street pointing out how Samsung wants to announce a new version of its virtual reality headset Gear VR that will play nice with the Galaxy Note 7′s USB Type-C port.

Expect to see Samsung's Exynos 8893 processor run the show from underneath the hood in developing markets, while Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821 processor will see action in more mature markets such as in the U.S. In terms of memory, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM should do the trick, while consumers get to choose from 64GB/128GB/256GB of internal memory configurations, with a massive 4,000mAh battery to keep it running all day long.

Will there also be three colors as rumored earlier upon availability? Only time will be able to tell, so stay tuned for the full August 2 reveal.
