There might be no Samsung Galaxy S8 announcement at the recently concluded MWC 2017, but this does not mean that Samsung has no other smartphones in their pipeline that they would like to unleash upon the masses. While we are all very familiar (all too familiar at times, it seems) with the Samsung Galaxy S series and the Galaxy Note range, the Galaxy Xcover name is less well known. Perhaps it is because the world is more preoccupied with having thinner smartphones with a unibody aluminum chassis, not to mention curved edges and near bezel-less design. Well, all of those are not what embodies the Android 7.0 Nougat powered Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4.
All set to hit the markets over in Europe this coming April, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 has been listed to be official on the Samsung Germany website. In fact, it has had its hardware specifications listed out for all and sundry to check out. Judging by the press photo of it alone, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 is going to be one tough device that is able to take a whole lot of punishment. Just don’t try to throw it into a fire or blender and expect it to survive.
Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 specs
The Xcover series has been pretty low key all this while, although it has built quite a reputation in terms of ruggedness and toughness. Not only is the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 water- and dust-resistant, it will also come with a rather decent asking price of just EUR 259. In terms of toughness, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 has managed to pick up the military-grade MIL-STD 810G rating, and ought to be able to function regardless of how high or low the mercury is. Not only that, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 ought to shrug off the likes of falls, vibration, humidity and salt.
Thanks to the IP-68 rating, it is capable of being immersed for up 30 minutes in up to 1 metre of water without missing a beat. A trio of physical buttons are seen: home, navigation and multi-tasking. It is also a nice afterthought that the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 will come with glove-touch support to boot, knowing how some of us might actually use it in extreme temperatures. Removing your gloves just so that you can use the touch screen is a freezing, bitter experience I had had in the past winters when such technology did not exist just yet.
As for the other hardware specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4, they include a 4.99-inch TFT display, a 64-bit 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 7570 processor that is accompanied by 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera in front for selfies and a 13MP shooter at the back, all running off a 2,800mAh battery. There is a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes just in case you need more than 16GB of storage to stash your digital content and memories.
Oh yeah, and it also arrives with Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box, which saves plenty of waiting time for the update.
