After being reported last month, Samsung has just released the new Black Pearl color variant of its flagship phone Galaxy S7 Edge in time for Christmas. The additional color option is a follow-up to the recently released Blue Coral and Pink Gold. It is also said to be the tech company’s take on Apple’s hit Jet Black and Matte Black iPhone 7.

Samsung has announced the release of the new Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge. The new glossy black smartphone is now available in select markets. It joins the device’s other colors that include White Pearl, Black Onyx, Gold Platinum and Silver Titanium, for a total of seven variants. The tech giant has done a little upgrade in the Black Pearl compared to its predecessors. It boasts a 128GB internal storage, an increase from the usual 32GB. For this reason, the Black Pearl is expected to more expensive. Except for being able to handle more space, its specs is similar to that of a Galaxy S7 Edge.

According to the Android Headlines, it is still has a 5.5-inch QHD Super AMOLED display with 4GB of RAM. It is also powered by the Exynos 8890 SoC or the Snapdragon 820 processor and a 3,600 mAh non-removable battery. There is also the 12-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera. The Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. It is water and dust resistant with an IP68 certification.
Samsung has described the device’s design as “modern and striking”. The fact that its “sleek black finish” even covered its edges makes the Black Pearl “a stylish all-black aesthetic”.

This is not the first time that Samsung has added a color to its initial line-ups. Back on Nov. 11, the company had released the phone’s Coral Blue version. If you can remember, the disastrous Galaxy Note 7 originally had this pallet, according to CNET. The success of the Coral Blue may also have driven Samsung to launch the Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge. The Investor reported that it has been “selling an average of almost 15,000 units every day”.

Furthermore, this is not the only instance where Samsung was inspired by Apple’s color option. Aside from the Jet Black and Matte Black iPhone 7, the Korean-based smartphone maker also had taken a cue from the Rose Gold iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S Plus, according to the Tech Times.

It remains to be seen if the Black Pearl Galaxy S7 Edge can help Samsung’s year-end sales.
