It has been a year since the 63-year-old comedian and actor Robin Williams was found dead in his California home. Sarah Michelle Gellar, actress, co-star, and friend of the legendary comedian, left a message on Instagram as an anniversary tribute to Robin Williams' passing.
According to Yahoo News, Sarah Michelle Gellar, an actress most well-known for her portrayal of the lead character on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, posted a tribute to Robin Williams on the night of Monday August 10th.
The tribute comes on Instagram, in the form of a photo and a quote. The photo is of a park bench in Boston where Robin Williams sat during for the film Good Will Hunting, where he played a role that earned him an Oscar. The quote is from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded."
Gellar then added, "you succeeded RW". Gellar and Williams worked together on the CBS series The Crazy Ones. It was a show that was cancelled before Williams' death, and Gellar was one of the first celebrities to react to the tragic news of the comedian and actor's suicide saying: "my life is a better place because I knew Robin Williams" and "to my children he was 'Uncle Robin' to everyone he worked with, he was the best boss anyone had ever known, and to me he was not just an inspiration, but he was the father I always dreamed of having".
Williams was known for his very free-associative comic style that allowed him to play extremely zany roles like the alien from Ork on Mork and Mindy, or the genie in Aladdin. He was also able to play darker roles like in One Hour Photo and Insomnia, and he was a comedian who could pull off drama with parts in What Dreams May Come and the previously mentioned Good Will Hunting. Although he was known for having a smile on his face most of the time, there was a dark undertone to him that sadly ended one year ago. According to the Independent, it was later discovered that Williams had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and may have been suffering with a form of dementia associated with this condition when he ended his life.
Williams left behind wife Susan Schneider and children Zelda, Zachary, and Cody. Other celebrities have taken to social media to speak about Robin Williams such as John Stamos and Margaret Cho, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
