Singapore Bible College has announced the appointment of Rev. Dr. Patrick Fung (馮浩鎏), a veteran international missions leader, as its eighth principal. Dr. Fung will officially take office on July 1, 2026, for a five-year term, succeeding Rev. Dr. Clement Chia (謝木水).

Rev. Dr. Clement Chia: A Decade of Faithful Leadership

The college's Board expressed deep gratitude to outgoing principal Rev. Dr. Clement Chia (謝木水), who has led the institution for two consecutive five-year terms. The board praised Dr. Chia for guiding the college through significant challenges and changes with wisdom, integrity, and unwavering dedication.

"He has influenced generation after generation with vision and a compassionate heart, leaving behind a precious legacy of excellence and grace," the board stated. Dr. Chia will step down in June 2026.

Dr. Fung's Journey: From Medicine to Missions

Born in Hong Kong in 1959, Dr. Fung initially trained as a physician in Australia, earning his medical degree in 1983. During his university years, he experienced a life-transforming encounter with Christ that redirected his career from healing bodies to saving souls.

To equip himself for ministry, Dr. Fung pursued theological studies at China Graduate School of Theology and Fuller Theological Seminary, later earning a doctorate in Chinese church history. In 1989, he and his wife Dr. Jenny Cheng (鄭珍妮), also a physician, joined Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF) and served in a Muslim-majority region of South Asia.

Dr. Fung's Global Missions Leadership

Dr. Fung made history in 2005 when he became the first Asian to serve as International Director of OMF in the organization's 140-year history. During his 18-year tenure, he led more than 1,400 missionaries across Asia, focusing on gospel proclamation, church planting, and indigenous ministry development.

Since stepping down as OMF International Director, Dr. Fung has continued serving in leadership, currently chairing the International Council of the Chinese Coordination Centre of World Evangelism (CCCOWE).
