For those who are not in the know as far as consumer electronics, there are some very big trade shows that happen every year. One of them is the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held in the first or second week of January in Las Vegas, and another is the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, also known as IFA, which is held in September. This year's Consumer Electronics Unlimited event will take place on September 4-9, and Sony plans to deliver a very interesting keynote. As for today, the company announced two new phones with the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5, and there is a distinct possibility of a Sony Xperia Z5 release date in the future.
Sony has a history of unveiling a lot of its great mobile devices as IFA that include the Sony Xperia Z3, the Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact, and that is just what they launched at IFA 2014. Phone Arena reports that the Sony Xperia Z5 could be making its first appearance. Yes, they kind of skipped out on the Z4, but it does exist in a tablet form rather than smartphone. Sony has confirmed a keynote for September 2nd at IFA 2015, but they have also just made an announcement today with two new smartphones, the Xperia C5 Ultra and the Xperia M5, according to GSM Arena.
The C5 Ultra has a 13 Megapixel autofocus camera on the front and back, very similar to the HTC Desire EYE. It also has a 6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display, 1.7 GHz octa-core Media Tek Mt6752 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16 GB internal memory, microSD card slot, LTE, 2930 mAh battery, as well as Android 5.0 Lollipop (oddly not 5.1 or higher).
As for the Xperia M5, that is a "super mid-range" smartphone with an OmniBalance design with metal on the sides and glass on the front and back. The M5 is dust and waterproof with IP65 and IP68 certification. The M5 has a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS panel, Media Tek Helio X10 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory with a microSD slot, 21.5 Megapixel camera on the back, 13 Megapixel camera on the front, LTE, 2600 mAh battery with a two-day battery life, as well as Android 5.0 Lollipop.
These C5 Ultra and M5 phones will be available in dual SIM variants in selected countries and emerging markets beginning in mid-August. As for that Z5 that we mentioned before, a report from Ubergizmo suggests that the rumored specs will be a 5.5-inch full HD display with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. It will also have 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 20.7 Megapixel rear-facing camera, an 8 Megapixel front-facing camera, as well as a fingerprint scanner.
