The Sony Xperia Z6 debut was tipped for Feb. 22 at Mobile World Congress (MWC), but it didn't show in the tech event. There are also reports that say Sony will not launch it at IFA, but never say never according to Tech Radar. Here's the latest round of update about Sony Xperia release date, price and specification rumors.
This time last year, Sony was gearing up to launch the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Sony Xperia M4 Aqua. However, rumors say Sony is now struggling financially, forcing the company to lay off some its employees. Therefore, the company could no longer maintain its tradition of releasing two flagship smartphones every year.
PC Advisor predicted Sony might use the IFA in September to announce its next smartphone. Last year, the company released the Sony Xperia Z5, along with Compact and Premium versions, in the said event. This year's IFA will happen on Germany at Sep. 2.
As for the specs of Sony Xperia Z6, Japanese site Docomo reported the device will have a 5.2in WQHD IPS display with 530 Adreno 530 graphics. Sony has settled on the 5.2in screen size for its flagship Xperia phones, so it is highly likely the Xperia Z6 will have that screen size. The screen display of the next Xperia Z phone could be a 4K resolution-- the same with the current Z5 Premium.
Most of the high-end Android smartphones today sport the latest Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor, and gadget lovers will definitely love to see it in the Xperia Z6. Also, the device is tipped to have a 3- or 4GB of RAM and likely 16/32GB of storage.
Design-wise, buyers can expect something similar to previous versions of Xperia phones. In addition, the Xperia Z6 will house an IP68 certified waterproof protection, Bluetooth 4.2, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and 23Mp/5.1Mp rear/front cameras.
However, several online websites said Sony might stop the production of Xperia Z smartphones. Recently, the company launched new line of Xperia phones, called "X" series, at Barcelona's MWC 2016. Moreover, Slash Gear published, "The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination - Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy."
The new Xperia X series includes midrange phones Xperia XA, the flagship Xperia X, and the top-spec Xperia X Performance. Check out our previous report for the specs of these devices.
Will Sony release Xperia Z this year? Let's wait and see.
