It has been confirmed that aside from the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War," Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark will join Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: Homecoming." According to reports, the relationship between these two characters will kick-off in "Civil War."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey has just signed on to join the cast of "Spider-Man: Homecoming." Of course, he will be reprising his famous role from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, it is not yet clear how much exposure Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man will get in "Homecoming" but viewers can expect that it will serve as a continuation of his relationship with Parker, which will be introduced in "Civil War."

Tom Holland will still play the role of Spidey and will make his debut as the wall-crawling superhero in the third "Captain America" film.

The participation of Downey is certainly good news for movie viewers especially for fans of Marvel. Unfortunately, though, "Homecoming" also lost a key member of its cast. Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Michael Keaton was in talks to play the main villain in the film. But, for reasons yet to be revealed, the actor has decided to drop out of the project.

It's a bit disappointing that he didn't sign on for the role because it would have been interesting to see the actor who played the original film version of Batman taking on Marvel's heroes.

As for the other cast members of the movie, Marissa Tomei is being considered for the role of Aunt May. Tony Revolori, Laura Harrier and Zendaya are also set to appear in the upcoming film.

"Homecoming," as well as "Civil War" is the first steps of Marvel and Disney in handling the films featuring Spider-Man. Since the 1990s, the film rights to this character belonged to Sony.

However, due to the poor reception that the past "Spider-Man" films received, Sony was forced to rethink its strategy regarding the franchise. This is why last year, executives from the movie production company invited Marvel and Disney representatives to a meeting to discuss handling the rights for the project.

With Marvel at the helm, fans can expect to see future "Spider-Man" films receive the same treatment the company has given and continues to provide to its other movie projects.
