As production began on ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ earlier this year, actor Tom Holland has announced that filming has come to an end.
The 20-year-old actor took to Instagram and posted a photo to mark the cast and crew’s last day of filming the new movie, and it seemed that the production could use some rest.
“Our last day on [Spider-Man: Homecoming] and this is how we are feeling but we got this,” Holland captioned the photo.
While the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ filming first took place in Atlanta, the team crossed over to New York City where the English actor shared an image from the set, showing his new costume.
“First night in queens and it feels like home already,” he said, referring to his character’s hometown.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have not released an official ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ plot or synopsis, but interviews with cast members and the rest of the production team have revealed few details of the story.
According to previous reports, one of the key elements of this ‘Spider-Man’ reboot will be the character’s young age. The script penned by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein will revolve around such concept.
The film has been described as a coming-of-age movie, inspired by John Hughes with movies such as ‘Weird Science’ and ‘Pretty In Pink.’ A clip shown at the San Diego Comic-Con 2016 points out that there will be many scenes set within Midtown High School.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ will focus on a teenage Peter Parker, who deals with the everyday struggles of his home and social life while juggling his responsibilities as a new superhero.
Aside from Holland taking on the titular role, other ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ cast members include Robert Downey, Jr. and Marisa Tomei, who will be returning as their Marvel Cinematic Universe roles as Iron Man and Aunt May.
The movie’s main villain, Vulture, is believed to be played by Michael Keaton. Other cast members include Zendaya Coleman, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Donald Glover and Hannibal Buress, among others. The film has been directed by Jon Watts. Producer Kevin Feige along with directors Anthony and Joe Russo have joined the movie as well.
It was previously reported that Orange is the New Black's Michael Chernus signed on to the ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming cast’ as The Tinkerer while but leaked photos from filming may have confirmed that Shocker will be one of the villains as well. There have been rumors of a third villain, and Schmoes Know has reported that this antagonist will be someone Parker will have to mingle with when he is not in his Spidey costume.
“This third 'villain' is a non-super powered character who butts heads with Peter in his everyday life. He also may be the new someone Aunt May begins dating in the film, a guy that Peter does not approve of,” the movie review site stated. “Whether or not the guy is actually bad or it's just Peter's prejudices clouding his judgement remains to be seen.”
Meanwhile, ‘Black Panther’ star Chadwick Boseman previously expressed his pride over Holland’s approach in playing the web-slinger, saying that his “fresh take” is excellent.
"Oh, he's great. I think he's great," the actor said.
The ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ premiere is set on July 7, 2017. Other MCU films to be released next year include ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.’
