Aside from being the face of the new "Star Wars" trilogy, Daisy Ridley, a.k.a. Rey, could also become the next actress to portray one of the biggest female characters in the gaming industry. Specifically, the actress recently confirmed that she is currently in talks to play Lara Croft in an upcoming "Tomb Raider" reboot film adaptation.
The last time that a "Tomb Raider" film was shown was in 2003, which served as the sequel to 2001's "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider." In both films, the protagonist was played by Angelina Jolie.
Then, in 2007, rumors about a possible third film emerged. However, these were not confirmed until 2011 after the project's film rights were acquired by production firm GK Films. Early reports indicate that the upcoming film will be based on the reboot game "Tomb Raider" released by Crystal Dynamics in 2013. This means the film will most likely revolve around Croft's first adventures.
Now that the project appears to be gaining momentum, several names have been attached to it. The most recent one is Ridley, who confirmed that there have been talks regarding her participation in the film as its lead.
"I'm waiting for someone to say 'I want you, let's do it,'" she told The Hollywood Reporter.
She also said that even though "Star Wars Episode VIII" is currently in production, she would still take the time to work on "Tomb Raider" if she gets casted as Croft.
Even her "Force Awakens" co-star believes that she's perfect for the role, USA Today reported.
"I played 'Tomb Raider' the game, it's a new take and I think movies are going based on that version," John Boyega, who played ex-Stormtrooper Finn in "Star Wars: Episode VII" said.
"But I texted Daisy [and] was like, 'this is you!' and 'you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft,'" he added. "She could be."
But, as Ridley noted, the "Tomb Raider" reboot film does not have a script yet. Also, as suggested by rumors, it seems she will have to compete with other high-profile actresses for the role such as Nona Dobrev, Hayley Atwell, Sharni Vinson, Kaya Scodelario, Jaimie Alexander and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
