Netflix’s hit series ‘Stranger Things’ has finished filming its second season. Last year, the supernatural thriller series went on to become one of the most talked-about shows of 2016, garnering more momentum in the weeks following its debut.

“Stranger Things” season 1 was centered on the residents of Hawkins, Indiana; after Will Byers’ (Noel Schnapp) disappearance, his mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) searches for him with the help of police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour). Will’s friends- Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin)- joins the search and comes across Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown)- a girl with telekinetic powers. “Stranger Things” season 1 ended with Will being rescued from a bizarre and eerie alternate dimension that the children have dubbed as the “Upside Down” as well Eleven having disappeared following her triumph over the Demogorgon.

Weeks after “Stranger Things” season 1 made its premiere, Netflix renewed its original series for a second installment that was later on confirmed for an October 2017 release. The first “Stranger Things” season 2 trailer dropped during the Super Bowl, highlighting new creatures and adventures for the Hawkins kids.

However, “Stranger Things” season 2 remains shrouded in secrecy as show creators Matt and Ross Duff have only dropped few details about the new quests that Eleven and her friends will have to pass through. Cast and crew members of “Stranger Things” did share updates on social media, stating that filming for the second season has ended.

Production for “Stranger Things” season 2 started in November. Other cast members who will reprise their roles include Natalie Dyer as Mike’s older sister Nancy, Joe Keery as Nancy’s boyfriend Steve, and Charlie Heaton as Will’s teen brother Jonathan.

Newcomers signing onboard are Sadie Sink as Max, Dacre Montgomery as her brother Billy, Sean Astin as Joyce’s boyfriend Bob, and Paul Reiser as Dr. Owens- a Department of Energy staff member.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Linnea Berthelsen also joins the “Stranger Things” season 2 as Roman, described by Netflix as “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab…”

In addition to Eleven’s return, “Stranger Things” season 2 is set to explore her backstory aside from what was featured in the first installment. All in all, the upcoming season will be more “horror-oriented,” given the new risks that the kids will be taking when the series returns.

"[Viewers] should expect a good amount of explanation that they've been looking for, but also there are some new stories coming in that you're gonna want to hear about if there is a season three," Gaten, who plays Dustin, said to the Huffington Post.

The Duffer brothers have already publicly discussed a possibility for a third season, saying that they have already planned the storyline for a future installment if Netflix decides to renew the hit series for a new season.

“Stranger Things” season 2 is set to make a premiere on October 31 on Netflix. The teaser trailer can be viewed below.
