She stunned everyone by belting out a perfect Dream a Dream from the musical Les Miserables. Stunning the expectations of the crowds and absolutely crushing the presuppositions of the Britain's Got Talent judges before her including the difficult Simon Cowell, Susan charmed with a crystalline, angelic voice and an impish smile. Simple and sweet, Miss Boyle's sincere way and public vulnerability made her a beloved British icon, seemingly overnight. Since then, she has stamped her name to multiple CD's and lent both her voice and personality to live performances. In fact, the previously unknown lassie swiftly "topped the charts around the world and became the UK's best-selling debut album of all time." Late in November of last year, 2016, however, Boyle undressed a potential truth: due to illness, she may not be able to perform live in the near future---if ever.
This shocking news came along with the good news that, after being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, Susan shed pounds, looking all the more phenomenal. After doctors advised her to lose weight for the improvement of her health, Boyle promptly resolved to give up the "sweeties and cakes." The Scottish performer, however, was also diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 2012; within that span, Boyle suffered a public meltdown at Heathrow Airplane. Personal traumas involving the overwhelmingly public nature and popularity of her breakthrough have contributed to her present ill-health. Presently, Susan is determined to focus on her health both physically and psychologically before considering another tour---in her own words, taking "baby steps":
"I haven't performed live because I've been ill. The short answer is that it has been connected to my Asperger's syndrome," Boyle added, "When you sing, you put on a persona. I hide behind that person on stage. You can feel like death, but you have to put it on. The audience wants to see someone smiley. There are no firm dates for another tour. I'm taking baby steps. I've decided to record and see how it does first."
Despite this disappointment, Boyle seems content to wait. Fans await further notification and cheer her along in this personal quest for increased peace and happiness. In addition, Christians can pray for Boyle's direction. Susan is a devoted Roman Catholic and gives God the credit for her vocal talent and successes.
