Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards: Christian Winners Give Glory to God

The 60th Golden Bell Awards for television programs and dramas were held on October 17 and 18 at the Taipei Pop Music Center. Many Christians, both on and off screen, received awards and publicly gave glory to the Lord during the ceremony.

Actress Cheryl Yang (Yang Chin-hua) won Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of a courageous woman, Chou Fan, in The Actress. She was highly praised by the judges for her performance. Yang was baptized before filming A Touch of Green, and in her acceptance speech she said she had found her faith.

Tony Yang (Yang You-ning) received Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Clap for Love Tonight, playing a cheerful-looking yet inwardly troubled husband. He shared about recently losing his father and how they expressed love and gratitude to each other before his father’s passing—testifying to the power of love found in faith, moving many in the audience.

Director Hung Jung-liang won the Lighting Award for his work on the reality music program The Beginning: On Stage. Wearing a T-shirt with a cross on it, he said the project helped him rediscover the joy of creativity, thanked his home church, Meihe Church in Xindian, and publicly gave thanks to God, dedicating the honor to Him.

Actress Pets Tseng (Zeng Pei-tzu), who grew up in the church, was nominated for Best Actress for her performance as an inventive small-town housewife in The Amazing Mrs. She expressed gratitude to her church community for supporting her during times of weak faith, helping her rediscover hope.

In addition, Lien Binh Phat, a Vietnamese actor, won Best Actor in a Drama Series for his outstanding performance in the Taiwanese medical drama Outsider Doctor. Sandy Fang (Fang Nien-hua), host of TVBS People, won Best Host in a Nature Science and Humanities Documentary Program, while Li Mu received Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for The Victims’ Game: Season 2.

Renowned musician and host Chu Yueh-hsin (Piggy Chu) won the Innovation Award in Drama Programs for playing a grocery store owner in Nothing Store. His character “Uncle Wang” appears stern but has a tender heart. Upon receiving the award, Chu joyfully shouted “Hallelujah!” in Taiwanese and gave all glory to the Lord.
