Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 gamers, here’s some good news: both games will be obtaining mod support on the PS4. Apart from that PS4 Pro enhancements will also be supported, so you might want to break open that celebratory bottle of bubbly. This bit of information has been revealed by Bethesda, who claimed that their partnership with Sony will see both Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 receive mod support on the PS4 at long last.

Not only that, Bethesda also mentioned on their website that both titles will be on the receiving end of PlayStation 4 Pro enhancements, now how about that? Skyrim Special Edition will be able to run in native 4K on the upgraded system as you can see above. Fallout 4 fans will need to be a bit more patient, since Bethesda will only work on the native 4K PS Pro enhancement after they are done with Skyrim Special Edition. However, good things come to those who wait, as Bethesda claims that Fallout 4 will come with better lighting and graphics features, which should vindicate your patience.

This is certainly a pleasant turn of events, as it was as recent as last month that Bethesda issued a statement that mod support is not forthcoming to the PS4 due to an impasse with Sony. All’s well that ends well, I guess. Bethesda mentioned then, "After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition."

It was not a walk in the park for Bethesda though, as they did have trouble concerning technical issues when it came to running Fallout 4 mods on the PS4. Xbox One owners had it better, with mod support being available on Microsoft’s console since May this year.

Skyrim Special Edition is due for a release this coming October 28. As long as all the niggles and warts have been ironed out after is release, Bethesda will then work on the same for Fallout 4 on the PS4. If you have been putting off the purchase of a new 4K-capable TV, then you might want to start to shop around seriously for one as the visuals are drop dead gorgeous. To play a highly addictive and playable title all over again with souped up graphics will definitely be high on the list of many gamers this coming holiday season.

Bethesda did mention, "We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible. Mods on PlayStation 4 will allow you to modify and create your own content by using our Creation Kit available here. You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do."

With The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim being reasonably priced online, those who have not jumped on board might want to do so now. It does seem as though the creation kit will be made available for the PS4 too, but chances are it will not happen since Bethesda have been pretty strict in developing games for the PC only withut ever looking at a Mac or Linux version.
