Jeffrey Dean Morgan finally made his debut as Negan in the last episode of "The Walking Dead" season 6. Since the episode ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger, the actor said that fans will have to wait until season 7 to learn about what will happen to Rick Grimes and his gang of survivors.

But, before diving into the details of the finale, titled "Last Day on Earth," readers should keep in mind that this article contains spoilers.

In the last episode, Grimes and his group are on a mission to seek medical help for Maggie. But then, they get blocked off by the rest of the Saviors along with their leader Negan. With no escape, Grimes is forced to confront Negan who then introduces himself and his baseball bat named Lucille by brutally beating to death one of the survivors.

However, since the scene was shot through the perspective of Negan's victim, it wasn't made clear which among the protagonists was killed.

According to Morgan, the first episode of season 7 will pick up where the "Last Day on Earth" left off. This means fans will have to wait a while before knowing which character Negan killed.

"We will pick up directly from what we saw last night that ends season 6, on that note, and season 7 is gonna pick up right where we left off," the actor said according to the Chicago Tribune. "So yeah, you're gonna see who's at the end of that bat and what happens from there."

But, even though season 6 ended with a mysterious death, Morgan noted that that's not the point of the finale. According to him and the producers, the focus of the last episode is the shift of power between Grimes and Negan.

"That was the end of the story for that season and that is that Rick has lost control and there's Negan. And Negan has all the control," he said according to USA Today. "It's not about the death of that person. The death of that person is going to kick off season 7."

As for the nature of his character, Morgan said that even though Negan is clearly the villain, he is still a very complicated individual. He hinted that if the fans knew his backstory, then they would probably even root for him, the NY Post reported.
