Considering that the Transformers movie series made a lot of money for Hasbro and Paramount, it was really only a matter of time before Transformers 5, which has yet to have a subtitle, would be released. There have been many rumors flying around about what will happen in the series, which will actually have at least four offerings. One thing for sure is that Mark Wahlberg will be back, and this is what else is known about Transformers 5 Release Date and Rumors.
The report from ComicBook.com has said that at the premiere of his new comedy Daddy's Home, Wahlberg confirmed that he will be back for Transformers 5, presumably to reprise his role as Cade Yeager, an inventor introduced in the fourth Transformers film, Transformers: Age of Extinction.
So far, very little is known about the film, because it hasn't been written yet. Hasbro/Paramount is playing this one smart as it has a plan for the four films that spans over a decade, so it will want to plan this out accordingly. It was originally planned that the creative force behind the four new Transformers movies is none other than Akiva Goldsman, a screenwriter who penned a few Batman films as well as the Oscar-winning A Beautiful Mind. However, Enstarz reports that will no longer be happening, as he is set to supervise the writing teams for G.I. Joe and another possible franchise known as the Micronauts.
On the team for Transformers 5 are other writers with big resumes like Ken Nolan, Christina Hodson, Linsey Beer, Andrew Barrer, and Gabriel Ferrari. Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead franchise, is also on board, as well as Iron Man writers Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Zak Penn. Also included is Jeff Pinkner from the Amazing Spider-Man 2, as well as Steven DeKnight and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the showrunners for Daredevil. It has also been revealed that Michael Bay, director of the first four films, will be back for at least the fifth film, but it is not known about the next three.
There are rumors that Transformers 5 will have two storylines. One will focus on Cade Yeager and what is going on Earth while the other will focus on Optimus Prime and his journey into space. Considering the fourth film ended with Prime going to the stars, it would seem like the next stop will be in space rather than Earth.
Many have assumed that Optimus Prime in space signals that he will meet some characters that appeared on the original Transformers animated series after 1987, where the Autobots met the Quintessons, the creators of the Autobots and the Decepticons. These rumors all lead up to Unicron, a massive robot that could turn into a planet.
Most have speculated that the rumors of the tie-ins with the original animated series and Transformers film will not happen, but the universe it established decades ago is too good not to just go to waste.
Transformers 5 will be released sometime in 2017, probably in the summer. It was originally planned to be released in the summer of 2016, but with the time spent in the writing process, it is probably good to have a delay.
