AMC has launched The Walking Dead (TWD) Season 5 trailer on Friday, revealing the exact release date as well as key plot spoilers.

"From the opening tease in the premiere onward, season 5 is without question the most ambitious and satisfying season this amazing team has ever crafted," AMC president Charlie Collier said to Entertainment Weekly.

"In the zombie apocalypse, event television is alive and well, and I am proud to acknowledge that this uniquely talented writing staff, production team, and cast have once again raised the bar (and the crossbow)."

The trailer was released at San Diego Comic-Con during a live panel that included TWD actors Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs, and Danai Gurira.

Lincoln stars as lead character Rick Grimes, the former police officer who leads a group of survivors. Chandler Riggs is Rick's son Carl, while Gurira is the katana-wielding Michonne.

The Walking Dead Season 5 will premiere on AMC on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 9pm ET.

Season Five Plot Revealed

Rick Grimes and his associates are tied and gagged, after being trapped in a railroad car by the mysterious occupants at the Terminus. They are then forced to kneel in front of a metal trough, presumably to be killed. To buy more time, Morgan speaks of knowing a man who has the cure to the zombie plague, but needs to get him to Washington, D.C. first.

Gareth the Terminus leader allows the heroes to look for the cure, but only on the condition they join him. The group begins their journey afterwards to the nation's capital in hopes of finding the cure. Rick does not trust Gareth, and gives a stern warning.

"These people [friends] are my family, and if you hurt them in any way, I will kill you," Rick says menacingly.

During a separate conversation with Gareth, Rick can be seen holding a baby. It is likely that this child is Rick's daughter Judith, though this has yet to be confirmed.
