Every smartphone owner would want to know whether their handset qualifies for the latest operating system version update, at least for a couple of years. After all, it makes perfect economic sense, as not everyone has the budget to change their handset every single time a brand new model arrives. In terms of what LG offers, their Android-powered devices are pretty solid, with the flagship LG G and V series often being at the forefront of the Android action.
Interestingly enough, an LG Korea official did make mention earlier this month that the Android 7.0 Nougat update is not going to make its way to the LG G4 and the LG V10, smartphones that are a couple of years old already. However, not too long after that, LG stepped forward with a statement that abrogated that claim, citing that Android 7.0 Nougat will be made available to both the LG G4 and the LG V10 some time in the second half of 2017. As to whether that is limited to just the South Korean market, or in selected markets worldwide, that remains to be seen. At the very least, owners of the LG G4 and LG V10 in South Korea won’t be left behind in terms of Android Nougat goodness.
Even better yet -- we have now received word that the 2014 flagship from LG, the LG G3, is set on receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update. This three year old handset would not be mourned if it missed the Nougat bandwagon, but that does not seem to be the case. After all, if the only device from LG that hails from 2014 -- the Google Nexus 6, has just received the latest Android 7.0 Nougat update, why not the LG G3 as well which was released in the same year? With the LG G3 being listed on Geekbench running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, it is all starting to make sense now.
If the LG G3 will be capable of running Android 7.1.1 Nougat, then it would not be out of place to see the newer devices, from the LG G4 to the LG G5, this year’s flagship, the LG G6, and the LG V10 as well as last year’s LG V20, to receive the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update as well.
Of course, do bear in mind that a Geekbench listing of a particular handset with the latest version of Android is by no means official confirmation that an OTA (Over The Air) update is going to make its way to the market. It might simply be a Nougat-based custom ROM that was caught to be in existence, and only for those who would like to root their respective devices to install it. Only time will be able to tell as to whether Android 7.1.1 Nougat will indeed, be an official release for the aged LG G3.
It would be far more believable that the better equipped LG G4, LG G5, LG G6, LG V10, and LG V20 will qualify for Android 7.1 Nougat. The only question is, when will these handsets receive the latest version of Android?
