Nicole Kidman is in talks to appear as the Amazon queen in Wonder Woman. DC Comics

Australian actress and Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman is currently in talks with Warner Bros., for a possible appearance in the much-anticipated Wonder Woman movie to play as Amazon Queen Hippolyta, who is Wonder Woman's mother in the comic books, reported The Wrap.

Representatives of Warner Bros., are mum on the negotiations, but the report said Kidman is a shoo-in to play as a "high-ranking Amazonian warrior" in the Israeli actor Gal Gadot. Wonder Woman is actually the debut solo film for the DC Comics superhero after her appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to be shown in March next year.

Gadot will be playing Princess Diana of Themyscira aka Wonder Woman.

"While Kidman's potential role has yet to be confirmed, the Queen of the Amazons in the Wonder Woman comics is Hyppolyta, who also happens to be Diana Prince's biological mother - though it's unclear whether the film will remain faithful to that storyline," reports The Wrap.

Kidman has previously appeared in another DC comics move. She played as Dr Chase Meridian in 1995's Batman Forever opposite Val Kilmer who played the billionaire Bruce Wayne.

Meanwhile, Screen Rant said that Kidman's role in the Wonder Woman movie would depend on what direction director Patty Jenkins wants to pursue in the film. If Jenkins will focus on Princes Diana's origin, it is highly likely that Kidman will indeed play Queen Hippolyta.

Screen Rant wrote this summary on Hippolyta had Diana, "To make a long story short, Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons desires a child, fashioning one out of clay, and begging the gods to bless it with life. The gods hear her request, and grant it. Since the society is one of only women, Diana takes on the title of not just princess, but Daughter of the Amazons."

Brian Azzarello changed the origin story of Diana in the Wonder Woman reboot. In the movie, Azzarello remade Diana as the daughter of Zeus and that her origin story was a lied told by her mother, Queen Hippolyta to protect her identity. This makes Diana in the same league as other mythical heroes, including Hercules and Achilles and it's a story that's more likely to be included in the DC Universe.

While discussing Batman V Superman, producer Charles Roven made this comments regarding new heroes that will in the DC Universe, "Well Wonder Woman's in it, we know that. She has powers, she's a goddess. She's half... she's a demigod. Her father was Zeus."

Kidman is due to appear in the suspense thriller The Silent Wife for director Adrian Lyne, and will next be seen on the big screen opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor and Julia Roberts in the Hollywood remake of the 2009 Argentine thriller The Secret in Their Eyes.

Wonder Woman will be shown on theaters on June 23, 2017.
