Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny plan to reprise their most famous roles as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder with an X-Files Revival coming next year. Fans of the conspiracy theory drama will welcome them back, as well as some other fan-favorite characters such as Cigarette Smoking Man and The Lone Gunmen. There is a lot to be said about the new X-Files Revival with its upcoming Release Date and Cast.
According to Collider, some old friends will be joining Scully and Mulder as they take on the paranormal in secret. It will be the Lone Gunmen, a trio of invesitgators that often helped Fox Mulder on the X-Files. These three will be played by their original actors as Melvin Frohike (Tom Braidwood), John Fitzgerald Byers (Bruce Harwood), and Richard Langly (Dean Haglund) will appear in all 6 episodes of the X-Files revival. There characters are considered fan-favorites of the series and actually had their own spinoff show for a few months, but it seemed like they met their final end in Season 9.
Also returning for the X-Files Revival are Mitch Pileggi as FBI Director Skinner, not to mention William B. Davis playing the mysterious Cigarette-Smoking Man. Not returning will be Robert Patrick, the actor best known for playing the T-1000 in Terminator 2, as well as John Doggett, the replacement for Mulder when David Duchovny left the show. According to Den of Geek, there are two new guest stars as well. Robbie Amell, who played the superhero Firestorm on The Flash, will appear as Agent Miller. The other guest star is Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under fame playing agent Einstein.
Last Thursday, the Fox network ran the first promo for the new X-Files series, with no specific title for the revival, but a quick shot of Scully and Mulder back in action again. From what is known of the new season, it will begin with the two now iconic agents looking into the mysterious disappearance of an alien abductee, played by Annet Mahendru (The Americans). The two will be joined by Joel McHale (Community) who will play a conservative talk show host that will tip off the agents to the scene.
Apparently, the plan for the new series is to have "Monster-of-the-Week, the non-mythology driven, creature feature episodes that littered original seasons of the series". This might be a disappointment to those who are X-Philes, but it might be a good jumping-on point for those who never watched a single episode during the original X-Files series 9-season run.
The official premiere date for the X-Files Revival of six episodes will begin on Sunday, January 24th at 10 PM. It will air after the NFL hosts the NFC Championship for that day. It could be a two-night premiere as the show has a regular 8 PM timeslot set for Mondays. Assuming the show is as big of a hit as it was in the mid-nineties, more episodes and development of the X-Files mythology will surely follow.
