Most of Microsoft's Xbox Live Games with Gold subscribers look forward to the free games given out every month. The good news is that the free December 2015 games have finally been announced, and there are some other holiday deals going on in the month of December as well.
According to Gotta Be Mobile, Xbox Live Gold users Games with gold titles would also be a part of the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program. Users who have an Xbox 360 can redeem these titles and then take them and their game saves to the Xbox One without having to pay for a game upgrade or any game extras.
One good source for games that are available for free is Major Nelson, and he has just posted what games will be available for free this month.
Available all month for the Xbox One from December 1st to the 31st is The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. The game is an action role-playing game that is the first in a series of games about the son of the famous vampire hunter taking out a lot of supernatural enemies in a steampunk world. This is not to be confused with The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Final Cut, which is essentially a combination of the three games with some bonus materials as well.
Also available for the Xbox One is Thief, which is a game with quite a history. Thief is a reboot of a 1998 game, and the player controls Garrett in a steampunk Victorian world as the stealth game focuses on stealing from the rich. The game is available from December 15th to January 15th.
Xbox 360 players can enjoy CastleStorm from December 1st to the 15th. If you are not familiar with CastleStorm, the Xbox Store describes it as "a super genre mashup of 2D physics destruction mashed with tower defense brawler...It's Knights vs. Vikings...where medieval warfare meets 2D physics-based destruction!" The CastleStorm Definitive Edition actually was available for free for the Xbox One last May 2015.
From December 16-31, Xbox 360 users can enjoy two games. One of them is Sacred 3, which is described on the Steam Store as "an arcade Hack 'n' Slash game for up to 4 players". Players can choose a hero to fight cooperatively in a violent M-rated game.
It looks like Xbox 360 users were given an extra gift for the second half of the month with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. This is a military simulation game developed by Codemasters that involves the U.S. military taking an oil-rich island of Skira from the Chinese, who took this isle from the Russians.
