A lot of people are talking about the Samsung reveal of the Galaxy S6, which leads to the question of when is the Lollipop update (Android 5.0) finally coming to the current flagship phone of the Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as other still popular models like the Galaxy S4, the Note 4, and the Note Edge? Fortunately, there is good news for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 users as the Lollipop update is rolling out.
Well, today, there is some long-awaited news that I am thankful to report. According to Android Central, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is now rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy S5 for Verizon. Actually, it is two updates, with the first paving the way for the Lollipop update, but this would make Verizon's Galaxy S5 the first of the S5 series to receive the Lollipop update in the United States.
Just to let you know, I am a Verizon subscriber who has the Galaxy S5. I went ahead and checked on my "Settings" menu (a motion done by simply swiping down on the home screen and clicking the "gear" in the corner). I then scrolled down to the "System updates" section. After I clicked that, I clicked to "Check for new software update". After what felt like forever, I finally got to the screen that you see in the image for this article. Since I'm not at a good access point now, I will download these updates later.
Assuming that I can get the Lollipop update on my Galaxy S5, this will make me and many other Android users very happy. With Verizon on board, other carriers are definitely going to follow, such as those from Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. Then other models of phones will follow such as the S4, the Note Edge, and the Note 4. Right now, the Android 5.0 update is currently being spread out slowly overseas.
In fact, we have a recent update form the Latinos Post stating that Samsung S4 users in Russia are enjoying the new Android update. This may seem cold comfort to those who are in the states and have the S5, but usually, when the Android update comes to Europe, it will not be long before it makes its way over here.
The Lollipop update is very coveted by Android phone users, and we have discussed how certain phones like the LG G3, HTC M8 One, HTC M7 One, and Sony Xperia series have all wanted this update, but many times it keeps getting delayed.
It was last June at the annual Google I/O conference when Google announced the Android update. Like all versions of Android, it was named after a sweet treat, and Lollipop (version L) was designed to replace KitKat (Version K). The upgrade is going to be a start of a new decimal as Lollipop is version 5.0, and KitKat is version 4.2 and up. At this conference, there was no mention of the official Lollipop release date, but news has been coming in slowly and erratically about Lollipop's release for all kinds of Android devices.
Now that it looks like the Verizon Galaxy S5 is on the Lollipop train, it shouldn't be long before these other flagship phones get the update. In short, this is good news for those Android users that have been wanting to board the good ship Lollipop.
