While the Bills have a stout defense, its success will depend on what kind of offense it faces. As a result, Peyton Manning and the Broncos' receivers could punch holes in that strategy thanks to their newfound offensive diversity.
"I like it," Manning said. "We kept the defense on their heels."
The Associated Press reported that the Broncos (9-3) lead the AFC West by a game over San Diego and have set season highs in rushing yards. Denver has won the last 11 games by topping 100 yards, and in their three losses, they averaged 35.7 rushing yards.
Bills coach Doug Marrone knows what his team is up against when facing the Broncos.
"You're way ahead of me," Marrone said Monday to the Associated Press a day after a 26-10 win over Cleveland. "I'm not looking at the last quarter (of the season), I'm just looking at this upcoming game. And our challenge is we're playing one of the best teams in the NFL."
The Bills (7-5) have won two straight games and are in a highly contested AFC playoff scenario. According to the Associated Press, they have a winning record for the first time since they were 7-5 in 2000.
In addition to facing the Broncos, the Bills will be facing the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders this month. Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams relishes the challenges set for his team.
"If it's daunting and you're worried or you're scared about it, I don't want to play with you," Williams said. "It's a challenge obviously. Great players. But we feel like we're pretty good players, too."
The Associated Press added that Bills have an elite defense, leading the NFL with 48 sacks and ranking in the top 10 in nearly every statistical category except fourth-down efficiency. Buffalo is placed at rank 15 due to the fact opponents have converted 4 of 8 fourth-down chances.
Bills safety Da'Norris Searcy thinks that his team has figured out how to incorporate its newest members in their strategic gameplay.
"In the beginning of the year, we had a couple new fresh faces in the secondary that we had to work with. So we had to get used to working with each other," Searcy said on the team's official website. "And now that we've been together for 12 games, we know how each other plays so now we just feed off each other. We know where each other is going to be so it makes it easier on the back end. Everybody is holding each other accountable and we're all out here getting the job done."
As for the Broncos, Manning thinks that C.J. Anderson may be the key to victory in Sunday's game. Over the last two weeks, Anderson has been instrumental with 335 yards and a 5.68 per carry average according to Associated Press.
"He has been special," Manning said.
