The latest ‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 spoilers have revolved around the possibility of ringing wedding bells for Matthew Casey and Gabriela Dawson.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Spencer opened up about his character tying the knot with Monica Raymund’s character in a future ceremony.
"I think there might be. They’re sort of toying with me as much as [the viewers],” Spencer explained. “I reckon that’s in the wings, but if it was to happen, it wouldn’t be a white wedding. Apart from the fact that I wouldn’t want one, and Monica definitely doesn’t want one, I don’t think the writers would want to do it like that. So if they ever did it, hopefully they come up with a fun yet heartfelt storyline.”
It expected that the upcoming installment of the NBC series will draw much attention to romance, including a crossover between ‘Chicago Fire’ and its first spinoff, ‘Chicago P.D.’
Paramedic Sylvie Brett, played by Kara Killmer, will share special moments with Detective Antoni Dawson (Jon Seda) on ‘Chicago Fire’ season 5. Executive producer Matt Olmstead said the two characters were paired with each other after fans of the series expressed their wanting to see the duo together.
“There’s plenty to play in terms of the May-December version of Brett to Antonio -- his character has a couple kids, he’s divorced, no way should he be with this woman, but she’s had her heart broken,” Olmstead explained. “She’s looking for a real man, he qualifies. He’s looking for a real soul, a real heart, and she qualifies.”
Interestingly, the characters in the ‘Chicago Fire’ world are expected to cross paths with each other as the stories are set in one city. A number of romantic relationships have also been included in the storyline, such as Lindsay (Sophia Bush) and Severide’s (Taylor Kinney) dating stint, although the couple eventually ended their relationship.
Mouch (Christian Stolte) and Platt (Amy Morton) also crossed paths and worked hard enough for their relationship to turn into a marriage.
“We like those inter-show romances,” Olmstead shared. “They can be hard to facilitate scheduling-wise, but they do work.”
Fans can also look forward to how the new relationship is playing out for Dawson.
“So far it’s been playing really well for us, but there will be little brush strokes as we go along. We’ll see where it goes,” Olmstead added.
In addition to the romance across the two stories, viewers could also expect more from Dawson and her career, although she might be more careful now that she has become a mother.
The ‘Chicago Fire’ season 5 premiere is set to air on Oct. 11 while ‘Chicago P.D.’ season 4 will hit the small screens earlier on Sept. 21 on NBC.
