Duck Dynasty Airs Christmas Finale, Season Five to Begin January

By Lauren Leigh Noske

The Robertson family worked together to kill a Christmas ham, find the perfect Christmas gifts, and to put on a Christmas play for their church in "O Little Town of West Monroe," A&E's season finale of "Duck Dynasty."

Willie is notorious for being a terrible gift-giver. Season Four's finale episode began with the Duck Commander CEO shopping for his employees at Walmart. His gift of choice? A Santa-themed Magic-8-Ball. In the past, he has surprised his wife with a bedazzled clutch, a Snuggie, and a pair of dolphin earrings. While he would call his gifts "practical," Korie might use other words - "They're...thoughtful," she says.

When confronted with the shocking reality that his wife doesn't like his gifts, Willie decided to turn a new leaf and get something that Korie might actually like. He set out on a quest to give his wife the best Christmas gift ever - "I want something that is so amazing and thoughtful that it blows all of my other gifts out of the water," Willie says.

While Jase seems equally as clueless when it comes to romantic gifts for his wife, Jep may have mastered "the art of the chase." With the youngest Robertson brother's help, Willie decided to give Korie a family portrait; Jase later decided to copy this idea.

Meanwhile, Korie had volunteered the Robertson family to put on the church's Christmas play, and Missy was in charge of directing it. Si, Jase, and Godwin would be the three wise men, Sadie would play the Angel Gabriel, and Willie would be Joseph. Jep has terrible stage-fright, and was asked to play the role of the inn keeper. He worked tirelessly for most of the episode to perfect his solitary line ("There is no room here").

Jep's wife Jessica wanted to prove to her in-laws that she was a country girl, so she asked Phil if she and Miss Kay could tag along to kill the Christmas ham. Phil's initial reaction was, "Never, ever take a Yuppie anywhere;" he finally relented, however, and the girls came along. Little did they know that talking was not allowed, and that Phil would trick them into doing fake hog calls. What's more, Jessica would have to drag a freshly shot hog to the car, and gagged when Phil began to gut it. "The yapping has stopped and the gagging has begun," Phil said victoriously - "Y'all are going to be hog hunters, yet."

Later that night, the house was packed for the Christmas play. Phil narrated the nativity scene story, and Korie played Mary. Wise man Uncle Si didn't go without his cup of tea (though he drank from a golden chalice, true to his role) - "My throat gets dry when I perform," he says.

Of all people, Korie was the one to mess up her lines. "Well, nobody's perfect," says Korie - "That's in the Bible, too." In the end, the Robertson family pulled it off - Jase praised Missy's efforts to direct the play - "One place I definitely don't mind giving credit where it's due is my wife ... Considering the talent involved, it was borderline miraculous," he says.

Before the church chowed down on the Christmas ham, Alan blessed the meal. "Father in heaven, we are very blessed tonight by the bounty put before us," he said - "We're blessed with family and friends in our community, but we're blessed most of all with the gift of Your Son Jesus Christ, and we pray in His name. Amen."

Season Five of "Duck Dynasty" is expected to premiere on January 15.
