This year, a lot of Mortal Kombat fans were given a treat as there was a lot of downloadable content (DLC) available.  Players could not only play as characters from other previous versions of the Mortal Kombat games, but even fictional characters from other franchises like Predator.  Sometime in 2016, there will be a new DLC with new characters, but there has been a lot of speculation on who the new characters will be for this Kombat Pack 2 DLC release date and update.

For those that just have to know what characters they will play next in Mortal Kombat X, the only clue is a tease from Ed Boon, the man behind the Mortal Kombat franchise.  He recently released an image on Twitter with four silhouettes, and underneath it reads: "Who's Next".

There has been a lot of speculation as far as who these characters will be.  The fact that this hint has been dropped shows that they are on the way, and putting these characters as silhouettes in shadow does not make it an easy guessing game, even if you have played every incarnation of the twenty-year-old fighting game franchise.

In fact, many have thought "outside of the box" when it comes to these characters.  Considering that Predator, Jason Vorhees, and Freddy Krueger have been player characters in Mortal Kombat games, Mortal Kombat's new DLC, which fans have been calling "Kombat Pack 2", could feature characters from other franchises.

There have been teases the Todd McFarlane gave NetherRealm his "blessing" to include the popular comic book character Spawn in Mortal Kombat X, but none of these characters in shadow sport Spawn's trademark cape which should be visible in silhouette (unless that would have been too much of a giveaway).  It is possible that the one with the oddly-shaped, almost triangular, head could be some form of Clown, Spawn's arch-enemy, with his oddly-curled hair.

Some have even speculated that the oddly-shaped triangular head guy could even be the Joker, Batman's arch-enemy.  This can probably be ruled out, as Ecumenical News states that Ed Boon gave an interview to Polygon where he said:  "I'd be hard-pressed to have a DC character as a downloadable character in Mortal Kombat X. The main reason is, I have no desire to cut Batman's head off. I have no desire to kill Superman."

Considering that Warner Brothers Interactive works with NetherRealm Studios to get DLC for Mortal Kombat X players, it seemed that DC comics characters would be the prime choice of player characters.  After all, Warner Brothers owns the rights to DC, which leads to speculation on what other WB properties would be fair game for a Mortal Kombat DLC.  It doesn't sound like Harry Potter or The Hobbit characters would be an appropriate fit as much as certain darker DC characters.

The suspected release date for Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 DLC will probably occur sometime before the first half of 2016.  If  you have a guess on who these mystery characters could be, feel free to leave a comment.
