NBA Rumors: Charlotte Hornets Top Team To Win Stephen Curry Contract In 2017 Free Agency; Kemba Walker, Nicolas Batum Accept Less Pay

The exit of Jeremy Lin from the Charlotte Hornets roster had been a big loss to the Kemba Walker team. Although the Michael Jordan squad could have offered a more enticing deal to keep the Linsanity alongside Courtney Lee and Nicolas Batum, they opted not to do so. With such tight-fisted money-related decisions, the Charlotte Hornets' plans for the 2017 free agency become clear. That is, Michael Jordan and the entire front office will be going after a Stephen Curry contract to bring the Golden State Warriors leader back to his hometown.

In the same way that LeBron James wanted to bring glory to Ohio by leaving the Miami Heat and embarking on making the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA champions, Stephen Curry is expected to go back to Charlotte and carry the team to the Finals. Moreover, the father of Seth Curry and the Golden State Warriors superstar, Dell Curry, played most of his NBA career in the Charlotte Hornets franchise. Hence, it comes as no surprise that his MVP son might want the same.

Although this could be a possibility, reports point to certain sacrifices the members of the Michael Jordan team are expected to make. One of the most obvious costs would be on their salary.

Rumors are rife that Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum expressed their willingness to take pay cuts in an effort to pitch for a Stephen Curry contract in the 2017 free agency season. As early as the current NBA offseason, the Charlotte Hornets front office is reportedly looking into the necessary adjustments to come up with the best deal for a Stephen Curry MVP worthy deal.

"But at the end of the day, I love my city. I love Charlotte," said Stephen Curry earlier this year following the move of the NBA to take out the All-Star games from the city.

The Golden State Warriors MVP added, "I love everything about it. I love the people there and I really wanted to see them celebrate the game. And it's unfortunate they won't be able to do that."

The issue of a Stephen Curry exit for the Dub Nation came soon after the Kevin Durant free agency train ended in the Klay Thompson squad. Given the style of the Golden State Warriors and the abilities of both the former OKC leader and the 2015-16 NBA MVP, fans believe that only one of them will remain in the team. Since the Golden State Warriors already splurged on a Kevin Durant contract, it seems unlikely now that they will release him anytime soon.

At the moment, though, almost all members of the Golden State Warriors have welcomed Kevin Durant in the roster. Moreover, the former OKC star's entry in the Dub Nation sealed their reputation of having a super team.

As for the Charlotte Hornets, the team has yet to officially comment of the NBA rumor involving the Stephen Curry contract in free agency. At this point, the Kemba Walker squad is concentrating on boosting its current lineup and looking for ways to better their chances next NBA season.
