The Golden State Warriors are busy slaying the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2015-16 NBA Finals. While Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are all expected to return by the next basketball season, it looks like LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love might miss two staple faces in their opponent's lineup soon. Reports are surfacing that the Golden State Warriors plan to trade Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut to pave the way for new and better basketball stars.
One of the most polarizing players in the NBA today is DeMarcus Cousins. Known to be pretty much like LeBron James in the sense that coaches seem to get fired when he's around, the Sacramento Kings star has been the problem child of the Rudy Gay squad for quite sometime. Given the upcoming Kevin Durant free agency, rumors are rife that the Rajon Rondo team is preparing to give the Oklahoma City Thunder star an extremely attractive contract - one that might even prompt KD to call Russell Westbrook to join him in Sacramento.
This means giving up one of their most valuable stars: DeMarcus Cousins. With the potential entry of Kevin Durant in the roster, fans believe that the sacrifice is well worth it. However, not all is lost for the explosive center. Speculations are also circulating that the Golden State Warriors plan to sign him for a max contract. To afford this, the casualties are reportedly Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes.
"Assuming no one else chooses to sign here?" Barnes said when asked if he plans to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors. "It's out of my control. People say, 'Do you want to be here in Golden State?' A lot of it is, look, I love Golden State. I'd love to be here. But there's also some other factors that factor into that, you know what I'm saying?"
Barnes is one of the starters of the Golden State Warriors. However, the NBA Finals contenders are already in for max contracts for Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Needless to say, two-time MVP Stephen Curry will be offered an incredible increase in his pay and a max deal as well. With Andre Iguodala possibly landing a max contract as well, the Golden State Warriors will have to let go some of its stars.
As for the possibility of signing DeMarcus Cousins, the playing style and energy of the Golden State Warriors would be perfect for the big man. With the thirst of the Sacramento Kings star to finally bag an NBA title - a dream that many have witnessed him desperately run after - the Stephen Curry squad might get him for a cheaper salary. After all, Cousins has been quite vocal with his desire to own a championship ring no matter what it costs him.
What do you think? Will DeMarcus Cousins be a perfect fit for the Golden State Warriors? Will the Sacramento Kings star mesh better with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green? Will the release of Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut be a good deal to land a superstar of DeMarcus Cousins' caliber? Or should the Golden State Warriors just go all out in the Kevin Durant free agency campaign?
