The basketball community has been holding their breath for the free agency decision of Kevin Durant. While the NBA season is far from over, the Oklahoma City Thunder star's future following this year has become one of the most widely speculated concerns in the league. With premiere NBA teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors reportedly targeting Durant, the former MVP has yet to officially make a decision.
However, it looks like the wait will not last longer. If the recent comments of Durant will be taken into consideration and placed under scrutiny, then fans might just have the answer to the free agency issue right now. Discussing his ideal team, the NBA All-Star shared that he sees himself signing for a "stable" team.
"When you get an opportunity to choose your environment, you want to be stable, you always want to have good people around you, and you always want to work with great people," said Durant via the Boston Globe. He added, "And that's how it is in Oklahoma City. Just great people, great working environment, great living."
He added, "Sometimes with your spirit and your energy, you can dictate your environment for yourself, and I think I have that ability to improve wherever I go. So every day I went into the arena, I know I have an effect on my teammates and everybody who works for the Thunder. Just knowing you have that is a great tool."
Durant has established himself as a remarkable franchise face of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Playing side by side with Russell Westbrook, the former NBA MVP has moulded their NBA team into a serious contender in the Western Conference. At the moment, the Dion Waiters squad sits at the third spot with only the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs ahead of them.
While Durant appears to be hinting at the possibility of remaining with Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder, he remains appreciative of the interest his impending free agency is generating. Amid the fanfare, Durant shared that he finds the situation difficult. That is, he feels pressured to make the right decision not only for himself but also for the next team he might join.
"I've never been through this before. It's hard to know what's going to happen. You hear a lot, but I don't want to seek anyone out. Everybody's going to ask me, so of course I'm going to have to think about it now. To tell you one thing, it's great to feel wanted, I guess," he shared.
"It's easy to put pressure on yourself when everybody is calling you a franchise player and you get paid like one. But just trusting in the work I put in every day and everything will work out. It sounds cliché, but I just try to put my faith in my hard work and everything else will follow after that."
