Both teams have a 7-4 record and aspirations for division titles. According to an Associated Press article, Baltimore may have a more realistic chance to clench it despite the fact it is in a competitive AFC North, with all four teams at least three games over .500.
Chargers cornerback Brandon Flowers thinks that winning the AFC West title is still a real possibility.
"We feel like we're in playoff mode right now because every team we're going to be playing the rest of the season feels they can't lose a game the rest of the season just to try to keep their playoff hopes alive," Flowers said.
According to Brenden McLaughlin of Rant Sports, the Chargers currently own the final wildcard spot. However, they are about to enter a brutal five-week schedule that pits them not only against the Ravens but also the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
"I guess it's good in a sense," Flowers said. "We don't have any so-called trap games. Every team is coming in trying to win a game, so we're going to feel like we have to give every team our best shot and we're going to get everybody's best shot."
In contrast, Baltimore has an easier schedule; they will face off against the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns. If the Ravens win their game against San Diego, McLaughlin thinks that will keep the Ravens ahead of the Chargers for the rest of the season.
"The Ravens are playing better football than the Chargers right now, and the home-field advantage will make it incredibly difficult for the visitors to pull out a victory, barring a massive improvement from recent weeks," McLaughlin wrote.
McLaughlin added that NFL teams from the West Coast generally don't fare well when they travel east. He thought it might be due to time differences and colder conditions.
However, the weather in Baltimore could play to San Diego's advantage. According to McLaughlin, the forecast on Sunday calls for partly cloudy, 55-degree conditions instead of heavy snowfall, which happened in Baltimore this week.
The Associated Press reports that the Ravens have won four straight games on home turf while limiting their opponents to 7.5 points and 270.0 yards per game of total offense. In addition, the Chargers have lost both of their trips to Baltimore; the teams have split the last four meetings, all of them played in San Diego according to AP.
