NFL Rumors: Dallas Cowboys Revisit Johnny Manziel 1-Year Contract; Tony Romo Expects Johnny Football as Sub Over Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys are eyeing a strong comeback in the next NFL season especially with the return of a healthy Tony Romo in the gridiron. With the health issues that plagued that Dez Bryant team last season, the addition of young star Dak Prescott in the roster seemed to be Jerry Jones' move to secure the quarterback position. However, it looks like the rookie might not be NFL ready just yet as the Ezekiel Elliot squad is said to be mulling over a one-year deal with troubled star Johnny Manziel.

The entry of Dak Prescott in the Dallas Cowboys roster was a decision that Jerry Jones himself admitted to not be their top pick. In fact, the NFL team owner shared in earlier reports that the Tony Romo team wanted Paxton Lynch instead. However, the Denver Broncos got to Lynch first, who is now competing against former Philadelphia Eagles star Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback post. Hence, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly looking into possible subs for Tony Romo.

"Only in the way that everyone has potential. I would say he has "long shot" franchise potential," said Tim Cowlishaw of Dak Prescott's ability to become the future of the Dallas Cowboys franchise. He added, "Very few QBs coming out of spread attacks transfer those skills quickly to the NFL. On top of that, QBs not drafted in the top 100? Those success cases are extremely rare. Prescott has intangibles as a leader that everyone loves, so perhaps that increases his chances. But he's still a long shot."/p>

Meanwhile, Johnny Football had been one of the biggest disappointments in the NFL. A Heisman Trophy winner and a prized college football star, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback was pushed to the brink by his partying and drinking issues. To add to his woes, he also faces domestic abuse charges. At the moment, Johnny Manziel is out of job in the NFL as Robert Griffin III took his spot from the Cleveland Browns while the Denver Broncos refuse to give him a chance despite the influence of Von Miller in the Super Bowl 50 championship team.

However, it looks like good news might be waiting for Johnny Manziel soon. Rumors are rife that the Dallas Cowboys are still considering him as backup for Tony Romo especially in light of the progress of Dak Prescott. Speculations are pointing to the slow development of the rookie which might push the Dallas Cowboys to consider signing Johnny Football.

Will this be a good move for Jerry Jones? Can the Dallas Cowboys truly straighten up Johnny Manziel and fix his issues off the gridiron?

"Manziel has recently told several NFL players that he realizes he may never get back to the NFL, and if he does, it will have to be through a route like the CFL or the Arena league," pointed out Mike Freeman of the Bleacher Report.

It remains to be seen if the Dallas Cowboys will really go and sign Johnny Manziel. At the moment, Tony Romo appears to be working as a veteran guide to mentor Dak Prescott. Once the court issues of Johnny Football clear up, perhaps the Dallas Cowboys can take another stab at trying to fit him into their roster.
