The Indianapolis Colts waded through a disappointing NFL season. Before the start of the regular season, the Andrew Luck squad had been predicted to be a strong contender. The confidence behind their potential high performance was rooted from their constant challenges to the New England Patriots. The 2014-15 AFC Championship saw the emergence of the Deflategate Scandal, which marred the reputation of Tom Brady and outraged NFL fans everywhere.
Ever since the said news broke, fans of the Indianapolis Colts have felt the need to avenge themselves due to their claim of getting "cheated" on. However, this dream crashed and burned when Luck injured his shoulder. Missing out some games this NFL season, the quarterback appeared to have let down his fans who were initially thrilled with his decision to stay with the Indianapolis Colts this year. Not one to succumb to the challenges, however, the football team attempted to remedy the situation.
One of the ways the Indianapolis Colts tried to salvage their NFL season was to provide a good support system for backup Matt Hasselbeck. The 40-year-old quarterback, albeit impressive in his leadership, still failed to save the NFL team from spiraling. The Indianapolis Colts, later on, went on a quarterback hiring frenzy, with Charlie Whitehurst, Josh Freeman, Ryan Lindley and Stephen Morris all given shots at the role.
With all these quarterbacks, fans believe that Luck still holds the key to the Indianapolis Colts' success. This confidence is echoed by Jim Irsay, the owner of the said NFL team. According to the exec, the quarterback is excited about the opportunity.
"If we don't get an agreement, we still have time," shared Irsay of Luck, according to the Indianapolis Star. The NFL team owner added, "And he isgoing to be signed. There's a reasonably good chance we can come to that agreement this offseason. He will be here, trust me. Andrew and I have talked - we talked after the end of the season - and he couldn't be more excited."
Irsay further shared his ambitions for the Indianapolis Colts with Luck on the lead. He said, "You know I'm demanding with my expectations, and I know the weight of having Andrew Luck. We want to get to the promised land, and I'm not shy about saying 'more than once.' We'd like to win two world championships when Andrew's with us over these next 12 to 14 years."
Although the Indianapolis Colts are settled on taking back Luck for the next NFL season, the fear of going in another year with an injured quarterback remains. Regardless of Hasselbeck's impressive performance, sports analysts noted that the backup is already turning 41. With this in mind, it would not be prudent for the Indianapolis Colts to depend on his ability to substitute Luck in the seasons to come.
Hence, the name of Tim Tebow is once again back under the radar. The Christian star offers versatility and strength in the field. With a limited playing time in the past years, the Heisman Trophy winner can offer fresh legs for the ailing Indianapolis Colts. Moreover, Tebow is young enough for the NFL team to still have time bank on his remaining years. At the same time, he is experienced enough to know the ins and outs of the football community.
At the moment, the Indianapolis Colts have yet to comment on the potential of Tebow to be part of the roster. As for the former Heisman Trophy winner, he appears to be focusing more on what he deems as the most important things in life. In a recent interview, Tebow slammed the intense attention people nowadays give to sports and other material things. He shared via Montgomery Advertiser, "We choose to idolize certain things, and love certain things. And I'm not saying it's wrong to love sports, I love them as much as anybody. But do we choose to really see what matters?"
