NFL Rumors: Seattle Seahawks Target Geno Smith Trade; Russell Wilson, Kam Chancellor Search For Sub

The Seattle Seahawks have not kept a secret their search for a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson. With the NFL training camp off heating up, the Kam Chancellor squad is ready to study the free agent market to find the perfect sub for their leader. At this point, reports point to Geno Smith who is once again sidelined by the New York Jets in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The conclusion of the contract stalemate between Ryan Fitzpatrick and the New York Jets appears to have also ended the starter dream of Geno Smith. Through the NFL offseason, fans saw how hard the backup quarterback worked to prove his mettle and get back in the starting lineup. Despite his efforts, the New York Jets still rushed to sign Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starter the moment the latter opted to strike a deal with them.

"I'm not disappointed," Geno Smith commented on the decision of the New York Jets to place Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starter. He added, "I'm kind of pissed off. But it's not a detrimental thing. It's not something where I'm pissed off at anyone because we all want to be out there. We all know that one quarterback gets to go out there on Day 1. That just adds fuel to the fire, but not in a negative way."

Smith further shared, "I don't want that to become like a headline or something like that because it's not what I'm trying to say. It's more as a competitor, as a quarterback, knowing what I'm capable of, and really believing in myself, knowing the work that I put in over the offseason. You want to be out there. But you've just got to kind of play the cards that you're dealt."

While Geno Smith said all the right things during the interview, his responses hinted at his frustration over the New York Jets. The backup quarterback shared that although he is signed with the Ryan Fitzpatrick squad, he remains open to other offers in the NFL. That is, Geno Smith has no qualms signing up for another team that could give him the opportunity he seeks. Will this be the with the Seattle Seahawks?

"And this is no disrespect to anyone, but I'm auditioning for this team and 31 other teams in the NFL, so the way that you handle all of this says something about yourself and your character," said Smith. He further shared, "Everyone is going to watch and see how I react. I'm not going to allow this situation - because it's not the worst situation I've been in - to deter me from my ultimate goal."

With these words, fans of the Seattle Seahawks are asking for the possibility of signing Geno Smith into the squad. While Russell Wilson is a promising quarterback, the risks of being in the gridiron are unpredictable. Despite his regimen and consistency, there remains a possibility of him going down with an injury or other health issues. In doing so, he might drag down with him the entire Seattle Seahawks roster.
