'Orange is the New Black' Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers, Cast (trailer)

Netflix original hit-series 'Orange is the New Black' will premiere for Season Two in a mere two weeks. As the premiere date draws near, Season Two spoilers have been emerging from various early reviewers on the net.

OITNB Season One ends in a cliffhanger with leading-lady, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), beating fellow inmate Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett (Taryn Manning) -- after Pennsatucky tries to kill Chapman.

Based on the memoir by Piper Kernan, the first season revolves around Piper Chapman's transition from her pampered upper-class New York lifestyle to the harsh realities of the penitentiary system. Even though the protagonist is only doing fifteen months of prison time, she is in for rougher times.

The earlier altercation has gone badly for Chapman, and she is sent away from the facility at the start of Season Two. By this time, Chapman has grown wise to the prison system.

"Piper's not the Whole Foods-eating, Toms-shoes-buying idealist anymore, and it's gratifying to see her lose the wide-eyed blondie shtick," TV critic Melissa Maerz writes for Entertainment Weekly.

Although praising the show for being "the closest thing we have to Charles Dickens right now," Maerz did raise concern that the show "does escalate the sexual content to almost an extreme level. Even fans of season one and the non-prudish will be surprised by the increase in graphic nudity and sex."

Other reviewers have criticized the general direction the show is taking.

"What felt fresh about 'Orange Is the New Black' has quickly gone a bit stale, at least if the first half-dozen episodes from season two are any indication," Variety columnist Brian Lowry wrote. "Season two opens with an awkward detour."

Lowry added that "that some of the flashbacks feel clunkier this time around," and that "the new season's highlights feel more scattershort."

Fans of the series will be happy to know that Nexflix is going to release Season Two in its entirety, the same way Season One premiered. This is in large part thanks to Netflix's bulk distribution system for its online streaming service. So, viewers have the option to binge-watch the series without relying on weekly recaps that can be somewhat annoying.

Most of the original cast is coming back for Season Two, minus Tricia Miller (Madeline Brewer) who dies in prison from a drug-overdose. Recently, Netflix order an additional season for the series -- meaning 'Orange is the New Black' is coming back for both Season Two and Three in the foreseeable future.

'Orange is the New Black' Season Two is set to premiere on Friday June 6, and will be available on Netflix's online video streaming site.
